FRMaking butter from scratch is such a simple thing to start doing at home, and it can actually save you money especially if you’re wanting buttermilk too!!!
Right now in nz, a 500 g block of butter is around $7.80, and 500 ml of buttermilk is about $5.50.
But when I bought 1 litre of cream for just over $6, (I think I got my cream on special but standard for 1L Pam’s cream is $8.60) I got both:
• About 500 g of real butter
• Around 500 ml of fresh buttermilk
Which is honestly pretty incredible.
What you need
• 1 litre pure fresh cream (not thickened, ~35–40% fat)
• Pinch of salt (optional)
Method
1. Whip the cream
Use a stand mixer, food processor, or even a jar.
It will go from whipped cream → grainy → separating into butter and liquid.
This usually takes 5–10 minutes.
2. Strain the buttermilk
Pour off the liquid and keep it this is real buttermilk, perfect for pancakes, baking, or crêpes.
3. Wash the butter
Add very cold water and gently squeeze/knead the butter.
Repeat until the water runs mostly clear.
(This helps it stay fresh longer.)
4. Salt & store
Mix in a little salt if you like, then shape and keep in the fridge.

SOAlthough picture frames are one of my favorite things to thrift, and I do you use some of them for photos, making a sweet little glass greenhouse terrarium out of them is a whole lot more fun!
Using simple picture frames from @dollartree , I made the cutest ones for our home. Since I wanted mine painted and a bit vintage inspired, I popped the glass panes out, painted, distressed and then hot glued the frames together, as shown, after hot gluing the glass back in place.
Finally, I added a little wooden finial to top and added wooden pieces to the “windows” using coffee stir sticks to create crossed panes. The bottom of my “greenhouse” is open, so all I have to do is pick it up, place my little plants inside and place it back over them.
I love styling my sweet little greenhouses all year round with plants, flowers, or anything at all my heart desires!
