IN📖That orange acrylic machine inside the cat backpack is a fully working FDM 3D printer weighing just 2kg.
The maker behind it, Filament and Frugality, built an entire functional printer small enough to fit inside a transparent bubble backpack, complete with a display screen, analog volt and amp meters on the side panel and a pair of googly eyes on the front.
It was shown at SMRRF 2026 in Manchester, the UK’s largest community 3D printing festival dedicated to open source RepRap technology. The printer runs, moves and extrudes exactly like a full size machine.
The only difference is you can carry it on your back while it prints. Miniaturization of maker tech has reached a point where the limiting factor is no longer the engineering. It is just how small someone is willing to push it.
