The BIGGEST study mistake students make is thinking more hours equals better grades… This isn’t true, especially if you’re still using passive study habits. I’m a current Harvard student and what actually changed my GPA was understanding the science behind why these habits don’t work: ❌ Re-reading the textbook ❌ Highlighting everything ❌ Memorizing flashcards in the same order These fall into the familiarity trap. Your brain recognizes the information, but it cannot recall it under pressure, which is why so many students blank on exams. ✅ What actually works is an active recall technique called The 3 Layer Build: 1️⃣ Outline Layer: Write the topic at the top of a blank page. Add 3 to 5 bullet points you remember without notes. 2️⃣ Explain Layer: Choose one point and explain it in simple language, like you’re teaching a confused friend. Getting stuck shows you what to review. 3️⃣ Application Layer: Create one new example or practice problem using the idea in a different way. 12 hrs study is not easy but I’m giving you a routine that will change your life . 8:00am : wake up 8:00 to 9:00 : shower +exercise +Breakfast 9:00 to 12:00 : study 1 12:00 to 2:00 : lunch and nap 2:00 to 6:00 : study 2 6:00 to 8:00 : scroll, friends , evening walk dinner 8:00 to 11:00 : study 3 11:00 to 11:30 : Break 11:30 to 1:30 : study 4 1:45 : sleep This routine is best for lazy student because there is 2 hrs of break in every study session. Tips : 1. When your start your study session make sure you completely avoid cozy area and your mobile phones 2. Natural light is very important so try to study in natural light 3. When you take 2 hrs of break you can sleep for some time to relax your mind 4. You can also take a break fir 2 to 5 minutes in between study session 5. Taped a red zone around my desk that I couldn't leave before ending my study session or I would have to study 30 more minutes (Kept everything distracting out of it) 3. I made chapter summaries in exactly 13 words. 4. Put my favorite snack in front of me but didn’t allow myself to touch it until I finished a full study block. 4. Ate something sour before each study session 5. NEVER studied at home I rather studied in front of my door than at home. (⚠️Comfort zone) 6. NEVER WORKED IN COMFY CLOTHES. 7. Studied with ultra bright light or very dim light It made my brain hyper-alert and too awake to drift. 8. swore by " bring home A's or don't come home" 9. Set my lockscreen to the phrase: “If you open me, you owe 20 minutes of studying.” 10. Gave myself a one hour break with no phone at all after school 11. Didn't allow myself to answer my friends messages till I finished all my study goals for the day 12. Taped images of people with cancer and other deadly diseases in front of my desk which reminded me of how lucky I was to live another day.
