A.k.a. Non-traditional Writing Challenge
Day 28: ‘Of all the ways I could express myself creatively, writing is the one that brings me most joy.’
We are all inherently creative beings – in childhood we dance, we sing, we draw shapes in sand, we make piles of dirt and call them palaces, and that ability to imagine and play is not lost as we age, it’s just covered up. In adulthood we may choose a creative path because we think it is something we should follow. We may think it is more acceptable to follow one creative path over another.
Maybe writing is the path you think is the best one for you – but is it the creative path that brings you the most joy? Today, work with the mantra ‘Of all the ways I could express myself creatively, writing is the one that brings me most joy’ and observe how you feel as you say it – that is, do not think yourself into it. Repeat it to yourself multiple times, either out loud or internally, and observe how you feel as you say it.
If it doesn’t feel true, here’s the newsflash: it isn’t true. Writing isn’t for you. Which does not mean you don’t have a creative path, it just means it isn’t writing. And that’s completely fine!
