BRA beautiful shot I caught a few months ago of a stentor spinning its cilia to create a whirlpool of bacteria. The stentor was also full of diatoms and other algae. I watched this for quite a while.

BRStentor coeruleus pushing against bubbles. This is a single celled organism that lives in pond water. This stentor is blue however in darkfield lighting it appears to glow pink.
I’m really looking forward to springtime microorganisms. My overwinter samples are still good, but I crave new things to look at.

JUA large (c. 150 microns long) ciliate from the moss patch.
You can see a contractile vacuole filling to start the video, and then emptying and disappearing. These are used to expel excess water from the cell, so it doesn't burst.
Taken with the 20x PHACO objective and mono imaging. 🔬
