Mo-rose What you are looking at is all of the holotype bones of the tyrannosauroid Moros intrepidus. This hindlimb is an associated right leg (shafts of a femur, tibia, and fourth metatarsal, plus a second metatarsal and two pedal phalanges of the fourth digit) found at a locality called NCPALEOUT05, aka the “Stormy Theropod” site. They have been assigned the specimen number NCSM 33392. The name #Moros, according to the authors in the paper describing it, means “the embodiment of impending doom, in reference to the establishment of the Cretaceous tyrannosauroid lineage in North America”. The species name, intrepidus, “...to the hypothesized intercontinental dispersal of tyrannosaurs during this interval.” What they are getting at is the ancestors of Tyrannosaurus rex were small, the giant Late Cretaceous doom bringers arose from small, speedy stock that seemingly migrated from Asia. They argue these bone shafts help fill in the evolutionary history of tyrannosaurs, that 97 million years ago tyrannosauroids were small-bodied and fleet of foot similar to Dilong, suggesting an Asian origin for tyrannosaurs. The two referred teeth were not found in the same place as the holotype elements, nor were they found together. The paper includes an illustration of only one tooth, the other is figured in an earlier paper. One, a premaxillary tooth (NCSM 33393), came from the site called NCPALEOUT11 “Suicide Hill”, and the other premaxillary tooth (NCSM 33276, from a third locality (NCPALEOUT 18) “Cliffs of Insanity Microsite.” I was surprised that these teeth, one of which apparently has a groove the other lacks, were referred to Moros, for they might belong to another as-yet-unknown genus of tyrannosauroid. It is amazing that a scrappy hindlimb contains such a wealth of phylogenetic info. It is a great example of how small bones can make a huge impact to our understanding of lineages.
