Certifications like NASM CES teach you how to run assessments, identify movement compensations, and follow structured protocols. But when a client has pain in a specific part of a movement, and your assessment just tells you they have a general limitation—You’re left thinking: “Now what?” You’re taught what to look at, but not what to look for. You learn to spot patterns, but not to ask why they matter. You’re given protocols, but not the critical thinking to apply them in context. So when someone has shoulder pain only at the top of a press... Or knee pain only on the way down in a squat... And the assessment points to “limited ankle dorsiflexion” or “tight lats”... It’s easy to feel stuck. Not because you did something wrong—But because identifying the problem is only half the equation. The other half is learning how to reason through it, prioritize what matters, and build a plan that actually moves the needle. Turn Pro.

4 OTHER mistakes new rowers make. Thanks for your share @cassi.niemann ! 1️⃣ - Dropping & raising the handle. Keep the hands & chain in a straight line, in and out of the machine. There’s no benefit to dropping the hands into the catch or raising the hands into the finish - it’s less efficient & sets you up in a poor position at the start of the drive. Learn more through the rowing course link in our bio! 💥 Aim to keep the chain level in the entire stroke. 2️⃣ - Pulling toes against straps. Foot straps are to be used, not abused. They secure you to the machine at the finish for a longer stroke, but aren’t necessary in the recovery. Pulling against them at any point puts additional stress on the body & causes a rush in the slide. Keep toes pinned to foot board at all times. 💥 Try rowing with your feet out of the straps! 3️⃣ - Opening body too soon. Rowing is a PUSH, not a pull. Using the legs at the top of the drive gets you the biggest bang for your buck. Trying to pull the handle leads to an opening of your body and skips the work of the legs. 💥 Set your body over sooner in the recovery so it’s already in position when you start the drive. 4️⃣ - Using it for laundry. Anyone else use their home exercise machines to hold their clothes? The biggest mistake you can make is not using it! 💥 Start small, start smart. Are you a coach? This is also a great program to have on hand. Use it as a guide for how to get your own clients rowing efficiently. Don’t recreate the (fly)wheel. We did the work for you. In the end, it’s not about being perfect. It’s about being efficient. It’s about using your time on the machine wisely. Let us help you do that! I want to challenge you to stop skipping the basics. Sure I love burpees and heavy lifting… but… when we are athletes we shouldn’t neglect foundational exercises! 😱 One of the biggest mistakes I see from athletic moms is forgetting to do the boring core stability work because you get too excited by the “kick you a$$” exercises. 💡 The truth is. We are postpartum forever… and if you want to be an athlete forever… it’s best to continue the foundational exercises you think are just for “postpartum” as part of your warmup for your runs or athletic conditioning classes. Don’t skip!! 🍑 Core Stability exercises like these “Quadruped Clocks” build the booty, prevent injury, improve posture, flatten tummy, stabilise the pelvis, decrease risks of bladder leakage during sprints, hill drills, & plyometrics. 💪 Want to make it harder? Hold a dumbbell in your moving hand. 🌸 Inhale relax pelvic floor. Exhale wrap in the abs and lift pelvic floor on ‘work’ part of the exercise. 💥 Try my app linked in bio. I actually became a CLC first which helped educate me on fueling for milk quality and production. It was one of the first places I had even heard about macro counting! In my text book as one of the healthier ways to lose weigh while breastfeeding! If you don’t already know this, I was breastfeeding during the majority of my weight loss journey. And maintained my supply the entire time! My background as a CLC helps me in so many ways work with my postpartum mamas and ensure safety around their weight-loss experiences while not jeopardizing their wishes to continue to nurse. . Soon after zo completed my courses I became a Certified Personal Trainer or CPT and wanted to learn more about fitness, training and the science behind training, and soon after followed a nutrition specialty which I now use to coaching others!
