We don’t even need trending audio…the sounds of the wave lab are just too good. 🤷 Here’s some additional footage from the recent experiments conducted last week. Led by Pedro Lomonaco and Daniel Cox, professors in the College of Engineering at Oregon State University, this project aims to better understand hurricane surge and wave impacts on coastal structures. The goal is to gain insight into structural failure and how elevation influences resilience. The orange structure was built to meet the 100-year flood standard, which is the current FEMA guideline. The teal structure was built to the 500-year standard and sits higher above the water. Both structures were constructed at one-third the size of typical houses to fit inside the basin. The waves — and the structures themselves — were designed to replicate the impact of Hurricane Ian in 2022. Researchers increased the wave strength every 15 minutes until the structures collapsed. The research also involved multiple undergraduate and graduate students. Lomonaco is hopeful that this research will have wide-reaching implications for coastal engineers, regardless of the type of natural disaster they are designing for. “This will eventually help inform building codes, determine where we place houses, and identify which homes are more susceptible to destruction under certain conditions,” Lomonaco said. #engineering #coastalengineering #oregonstate

🚨The hard truth about Division 1 baseball is this: 35 guys on the roster, 27 travel… and only 9 touch the field at a time and obviously only 1 arm on the mound. 🥶 Everyone dreams of going D1 — but nobody talks about what really happens once you show up.⬇️ • 1. You might travel… and never pitch There were weekends where I flew across the country fully ready to go… and never touched the mound. They threw the same guy twice instead of going to me — even when I was more rested. That’s the business. That’s the reality. Pitch better it’s that simple. 😮‍💨⚾️ • 2. These dudes are REALLY good — and everyone is as good as you (if not better) Getting there isn’t the finish line — it’s the starting point. It’s easy to post the commitment graphic and feel like you “made it.” Then you show up to your first practice… …and guys are bigger than you. …guys throw harder than you. …guys move better than you. Then your first outing comes around, you get touched around a little, and suddenly that confidence you had in high school starts to spiral. This level humbles everybody. D1 is stacked with dudes who were the guy where they came from — and now you’re all in the same room fighting for one spot.⚡️⚡️⚡️ • 3. The travel roster reality check I had no idea that D1 even had travel rosters. I didn’t know some guys stayed home and watched games on TV. And here’s the part nobody tells you: If you don’t travel, you’re STILL practicing that day. With who? The other guys who didn’t travel. While the team is getting ready to face UCLA, Stanford, Oregon State… you’re back home running a full practice plan. That is just a shitty feeling — but it’s also the moment you find out what you’re really made of. A lot of guys who stayed back were draft picks later on…💵 Follow me for more real D1 perspective and actual guidance to help you not just make a roster… but stick on one.
