I get it. I’m not the hugest fan of paper piecing myself for several reasons. BUT it is the best method for lots of situations. Use the folded over placement trick to never have a gap in your paper to fabric reality again. Also, get cheap newsprint to print the patterns on AND use tiny stitches WITH a 80 sewing machine needle. The pattern will just flake off the back. I promise. Paper piecing is one of those quilting tool kit skills you should have in your box of tricks, no need to be scared of it. The main change I’d make to any pattern is not to pre cut bits of fabric. Just do what I did and nibble away at a larger piece of fabric. #bethannenemesh #fpp #paperpiecing #quilting

Removing the papers in English Paper Piecing after glue basting.... Pin the block on a felt ironing mat, apply steam & heat to loosen, grab a stiletto to pop the papers, lather rinse repeat and press as I go. The heat & steam aren't mandatory since the stiletto does most of the work, but I've found it minimizes damage to the paper so I can reuse them again and again. Now to figure out what I'm gonna go with this panel. Any ideas? #englishpaperpiecing #hexielove

I’ve enjoyed making this Deco Diamonds so much, from sewing the strips to trimming the templates - it’s all so satisfying 🥰 If you’re newer to FPP, you can still do this! I have step-by-step instructions in the pattern that guide you through. This is also larger and straight forward FPP, which makes this a really good “put some music on and turn your brain off” activity. Want to make your own Deco Diamonds quilt? After months of working on this project ( so you don’t have too 😜), I am delighted to present my New Foundation Paper Piecing Pattern “Girl With The Pearl Earring” based on the 1665 famous oil painting by Dutch Golden Age painter Johannes Vermeer. It would be a dream to see her one day!❤️ With this project I aimed to create as much visual complexity as possible while at the same time simplifying the construction to piece it together. Using only 15 fabrics of color, I wanted to highlight her poignant stare while throwing in fun and vibrant colors. IT WAS SO FUN! This Quilt Measures 60x60, has 76 Paper Piecing Units, and 563 fabric shapes. This pattern is available in 3 forms: (1) PDF Download, (2) Paper Pattern and (3) Quilt Kit. The Quilt Kits are available for a limited time while supplies last. Der genaue Termin hängt davon ab, wann alle Stoffe für die vorbestellten Materialpakete bei mir eintreffen. Alle wichtigen Infos findet ihr im Onlineshop: www.gritslifeshop.de → Kategorie BOM (Block of the Month) Dort findet ihr: • die Anleitung • verschiedene Materialpakete in mehreren Größen • die Teilnahmebedingungen zum Projekt Da die Anleitung von Nancy Rink stammt und nicht von mir entworfen wurde, ist es wichtig, dass jede Teilnehmerin und jeder Teilnehmer eine eigene Anleitung besitzt. Zu den Varianten: • Kleine Version – wird komplett auf Papier genäht • Mittlere Version – teilweise Paper Piecing • Große Regenbogen-Version – meine persönliche Interpretation mit vielen verschiedenen Stoffen Für die kleine und mittlere Variante habe ich zusätzliche Gruppierungs- bzw. Kopiervorlagen erstellt. Diese bekommt ihr: • kostenlos mit dem passenden Materialpaket • oder separat, wenn ihr die Anleitung bei mir gekauft habt Die Vorlagen werden allerdings erst zum Start des Block of the Month ausgegeben. Gemeinsam nähen wir in einer eigenen Facebook-Gruppe. Die Gruppe ist privat und ausschließlich für alle gedacht, die tatsächlich mitnähen und die Anleitung besitzen. Dort: • zeige ich Schritt für Schritt meine Vorgehensweise • gebe Tipps zum Zuschneiden der Stoffe • erkläre kleine Abweichungen von der Originalanleitung • beantworten wir gegenseitig Fragen Ich habe beim Nähen meiner Quilts sehr genau kalkuliert – es bleiben sogar noch Stoffreste übrig. Und genau daraus entsteht noch eine kleine Überraschung: Alle Teilnehmer mit Materialpaket bekommen von mir Bonus-Kopiervorlagen für einen zusätzlichen Restquilt, den ihr aus euren übrig gebliebenen Stoffen selbst gestalten könnt. Ich selbst werde aus meinen Resten etwas für einen guten Zweck nähen. Das Projekt hat mir so viel Freude gemacht, dass ich davon gern ein Stück weitergeben möchte – vielleicht freuen sich am Ende ein paar Kinder über einen fröhlich bunten Quilt. One of my favorite little “aha!” moments when I learned the magic of freezer paper piecing is this... ⬇️ You don’t need a new foundation for every single block. Wait... What?!?!?! 😍 With the freezer paper piecing technique, the foundation peels off like a sticker. It’s like MAGIC! 🪄 With this technique, you can use the same foundation again… and again… and again to create an entire batch of blocks. If you’ve ever done traditional foundation paper piecing, you know the drill. Sew the block, tear the paper out of the seams, grab a new sheet, and start over. This works a little differently. Once you get into the rhythm, it becomes a really satisfying process. There’s nothing like peeling that foundation off, knowing you’re about to use it again! 🙌 It’s one of those techniques that makes you wonder why you didn’t try it sooner! Inspired by Art Deco architecture, metallic detailing, and the symbolism of the moon, this design blends bold geometry with flowing curves in a way that feels both timeless and luxuriously modern. And yes — those curves are totally doable. Foundation paper piecing + reverse appliqué make it achievable (intermediate quilters, you’ve got this 💪). I also designed heavy-duty freezer paper templates specifically for this pattern to make those smooth curves even easier — because having the right tool makes all the difference.
