We can’t talk words away from verbal students so we should take them away from device users. One thing I’ve noticed is so many pages dedicated to chronic illness are meant to make you feel less alone and while I think that is SO important-sometimes it can catch us in perseverating on the difficulties only. I exist to show you that life and HOPE is available to you. I have hEDS/MCAS/POTS and after my life was burned to the ground (more than once I’ll say) I have rebuilt every single piece intentionally. Now, I’m an entrepreneur and business owner, I have an amazing husband and mold free home with 2 doodles, and we are still working towards our dream of becoming parents. Did you know that depression and anxiety are among the most *common* psychiatric disorders to co-occur? (meaning they happen at the same time!) . The two have a complicated relationship as you can imagine; they often feed into one another and create negative cycles. When someone is anxious and perseverating over a problem/worry, this can lead to depression. On the other hand, depression can often lead to a lot of anxiety and even panic attacks. See the cycle? One can easily trigger the other… . According to #NAMI estimates show 60% of those with anxiety will also have symptoms of depression, and the numbers are similar for those with depression also experiencing anxiety. So bottom line … YES. You *can* have both at the same time … and no it’s not weird. . *Reminder that this is ONLY social media and it is not a replacement for therapy/counseling from a professional. Am I making the right decision? What if I make the wrong one? Perseverating on this can lead to analysis paralysis. Often, people hesitate to make a choice and default to doing things the way they’ve always done them, even if it causes pain, suffering, discomfort, and prevents growth or progress. I see this frequently when it comes to decisions around food and exercise. There’s a fixation on always “getting it right” when it comes to nutrition, diet, or recovery. This pressure to make every choice perfect can be overwhelming. That’s why I like to review this decision-making framework with clients to help them make thoughtful choices—not just about food and exercise but also about life in general. You’ll find it below. Save it for later, and don’t forget to follow for more insights to deepen your clinical skills in working with disordered eating and body image issues. 1. What decision do you have to make? 2. List the options. What possible actions could you take? Remember, when you brain-storm solutions, write all solutions down, no matter how ridiculous they seem! Try not to judge the options / solutions at this stage. 3. Weigh the consequences. List the pros and cons of each option. 4. Consider your values and priorities. What is most important to you? 5. Decide and act. Describe what you will do. Explain your decision. Do the thing! 6. Most importantly, evaluate your choice. You can evaluate immediately after, the next day, the following week, the next month. Pick a time when you will evaluate your choice. How do you feel about the action you took? Would you take a different action if faced with the same scenario again? What did you learn? That heightened state might bring with it trouble sleeping, intrusive thoughts, perseverating thoughts, increased checking, trouble focusing and more. These reactions are normal. So learn to sit with those feelings. Feel them. Express them. And remember you aren’t alone.
