BOPFD Safety test. It can be challenging to find a life jacket for a cat, technically a PFD, personal floatation device.
Cats and dogs are different sizes and most of the dog ones don’t fit quite right and can even be unsafe. His previous one is good and fits well but has less floatation than what is needed out on the sea. If I’m paddling along with speed and Bodhi falls off, if I pull him in too quickly his head can go under. I have an extra 10m of leash that I can release if necessary to give me more time to pull him in if needed. I have never had to use this safety system but have come close a few times.
Bodhi has tried over a dozen “life jackets”, not the technical name but a common name. A full report to come after being put to full use.
Always test your gear first. It’s for Safety so it should keep their head above water if for some reason they can’t swim. Happy paddling!

I had the amazing opportunity to attend the international pediatric feeding disorder conference this weekend. @feedingmatters is an amazing non-profit organization raising awareness for PFD.
I was hesitant and nervous leaving Hannah for the weekend, knowing that outside stressors like me being away, increases her anxiety and affects her eating.
It was so refreshing seeing this video of her cooking eggs for her dad. She was so excited to send me this video and let me know that she was having fun and doing ok.
Even though she didn’t eat them, she enjoyed the experience and was very proud of herself for making them and watching dad enjoy them.
It’s truly amazing to see her growth. Just a year ago she couldn’t stand to be in the same room when someone was making eggs, and now she is the one making them!!!
This truly made me so happy and shows how far she has come. Seeing her confidence soar has been so rewarding!

PEI see more and more courses popping up on treating ARFID coming from providers who are not mental health professionals.
While SLPs may play a role as part of the team when PFD coexists with ARFID, it is so important that children with ARFID see appropriate providers to support care.
If the course isn’t considering ARFID from the lens of the SLP role - and the nuances and limitations here - then be cautious.
Just because someone says what or how to do something, doesn’t mean it is accurate, ethical, or within your scope. That is for you to decide.
Just like when I take courses for other disciplines, such as GIs, dietitians, cardiologists, it is so helpful in patient care but I still only apply what is within my scope of practice.
And it is MY responsibility to be aware of that.
It seems obvious to things like medical procedures, but it matters in cases like this as well.

THFor children with pediatric feeding disorder (PFD) and/or ARFID, activities with strong sensory components can be really challenging.
Research shows that simply touching a food doesn’t make a child more likely to eat it and if they experience repeated negative sensory reactions while handling certain foods, tasting those foods can feel even harder.
In this video, the pumpkin “guts” were likely part of carving, not eating, but a child who gags when touching pumpkin pulp or seeds might begin to associate that experience with other pumpkin foods. #pumpkin #pumpkincarving #arfid #pfd

EXWhile most children will eat …. those with Pediatric Feeding Disorder (PFD) can inadvertently “starve” themselves. Children with PFD have the lived experience that eating doesn’t work and/or it hurts.
HUNGER WILL NOT OVER COME THOSE FACTORS.
Children with PFD (especially medical components and feeding skill difficulties) have an increased likelihood of appetite suppression over time which can impact their ability to respond correctly to their internal appetite cues, resulting in decreased caloric intake.
