THAn Eccentric Reducer is a type of pipe fitting used in piping systems to connect pipes of different diameters while maintaining one side aligned (flat).
Unlike a Concentric Reducer, an eccentric reducer has an offset centerline, which helps prevent air accumulation or liquid stagnation inside pipelines.
In piping engineering and plant design, eccentric reducers are commonly used in horizontal pipelines, especially in pump suction and discharge lines, where maintaining proper flow conditions is critical.
Working Principle
The reducer gradually changes pipe diameter while keeping one side flat:
• Flat Top (FOT) → prevents air accumulation in gas/steam lines
• Flat Bottom (FOB) → prevents liquid accumulation in liquid lines
This ensures smooth fluid flow and avoids operational issues like cavitation.
