Unearthed my OG Polly Pocket compacts while decluttering my room in my parents’ home.

Tiny worlds that fit in our hands and in our hearts too.
My daughter has Polly Pockets now, but they’re not pocket-sized anymore. 😅 They are huge! The dolls don’t have that classic look like the OGs and feel more like mini Barbie dolls.
Well, that explains… Mattel acquired Polly Pocket in 1998.
They don’t make them like they used to. Just the look of these vintage compacts sets our hearts fluttering.
Made by Bluebird Toys and yes, they’re officially considered vintage now.
I saw Polly’s School still in packaging listed for over $400+ on eBay!
The original price tag? Just $6.90. Not even sure what currency that was in, but wow… talk about inflation!
Despite having a huge and pretty unicorn Polly Pocket by Mattel set and another keychain version as gifts, @ash1eigh_ng was so thrilled that I brought my childhood sets home and spent some time playing with them.

ILMummy thank you and I love you so much. Not only did you gift me my life but you also taught me to be grateful. These Polly pockets were earned throughout my childhood but not as rewards for being good or doing well in exams (cause, let’s be real, sis was a damn average kid) but these were special birthday or Christmas gifts that I know you saved to buy them for me cause we didn’t have much growing up. GRI FINALLY found Polly pockets at the thrift store!!! There were some newer ones I saw first in the bag but then noticed that old Polly pocket logo and I was so excited! No figures with them but we have plenty with the other sets we have. Can’t wait to gift them to my daughter! 😍

MIIt’s not surprising that 6 people living in a house means a lot of STUFF but what might be surprising is that with each addition to our family, I’ve actually been subtracting the amount of toys we have out so there is less and less and we are ALL so much happier for it!
The girls will play for hours on their own every day and I attribute so much of it to their ability to engage so much deeper in their play because they aren’t overwhelmed with so many choices.
They are better at sharing, using their imagination and fight over stuff way less.
We’ve been having SO many conversations every day about what it means to have a big family, how we all need to chip in to keep our home a tidy and happy place to live - with less out it is SO much easier for them to do their part to clean everything up and keep it organized 🥰 it’s been so so so nice not having to fight them on it every time.
Here are the toys that we have- they are non stimulating and open ended:
A bin of “guys” as they call it hahaha - little toy figures like animals, characters, super hero’s etc
A few mini houses with furniture and vehicles to go along with the guys/play in them with.
A couple of Polly pockets.
A bin of wooden blocks/magnetic tiles.
A dress up bin.
Play kitchen with a bin of food/plates/utensils.
A baby bed with a couple of babies + clothes + stroller.
Stuffies ( most of these are kept in their rooms)
Everything has a home that is both easy to find and access for play AND easy to tidy back up. I want to raise helpful children and I think a big part of that is making it easy for them to help 🥰
