CIIn the opening scene of Prometheus (2012), we see an Engineer standing by a waterfall, drinking a substance known as the “Black Goo” (Mutagen).
This substance is: A biologically extremely powerful mutagen. A material that breaks down a living being all the way to its cells and forms the basis for DNA reconstruction. A catalyst that causes the Engineer’s body to disintegrate and his DNA to merge with the water.
This is a symbolic reference to the creation of humanity in the film.
