Fr. Josiah Trenham, known for his fiery defense of Orthodoxy, models something just as powerful: RECOGNIZING GRACE WHEREVER IT IS FOUND.
To Protestants entering the Orthodox Church, he says:
· “I have a lot to learn from you.”
· “You have the discipline of giving, the discipline of Bible reading, the discipline of evangelization... there’s a lot of virtues that we Orthodox sometimes we’re horrible at.”
· “We have the pure faith, but we Orthodox don’t always live it well.”
This is not compromise. This is WISDOM. It is seeing that God has been at work in sincere hearts long before they found the fullness of the Church.
His final command to converts is brilliant: “Don’t lose what you already gained. Come and become a rich man into the Church. You’ll actually be able to receive the Holy Mysteries and have Christ dwelling in you.”
The goal is not to strip them bare, but to bring their spiritual wealth into the TREASURY OF THE SACRAMENTS, where it is crowned and fulfilled.

OUAs a 3rd grade teacher, here’s what I’ve learned about evangelization: I know you’ve heard the phrase:
“students don’t learn from teachers they don’t like.”
It’s not true. They will learn, but they won’t change.
Students change when they are directed by a firm but gentle hand and heart. I know this is true because I see it happen in my classroom every year without fail: students who enter hostile and apprehensive leave joyful and softened. It isn’t because they loved my teaching style or thought the content was amazing, but because my approach made them feel safe enough to trust and grow. The same is true for evangelizing online—our tone matters. The saints’ goal was never to win arguments but to win souls, and if your evangelization needs contempt to work, it isn’t Christian, it’s just content. Your tone preaches before your words do, and if your tone screams contempt, the truth won’t be heard. Here’s what the saints showed us about evangelization. The Saints didn’t evangelize by humiliation. Mockery feels strong, but It actually just repels grace.St John Chrysostom taught that correction must be offered as medicine, not a weapon. He warned that a rebuke given with anger causes souls to close rather than heal. Animosity turns evangelization into an assault, which hardens hearts instead of awakening conscience.St John Chrysostom: “The Christian must be meek, not quarrelsome.” Animosity shifts the focus from truth to ego Evangelization requires self-emptying, not self-promotion. When animosity enters, the goal subtly changes from “May this person from: encounter the fullness of truth” to “May I prove I’m right”. St. Francis de sales converted tens of thousands of Calvinists not by polemies, but by patient, loving explanation: often under ridicule. He insisted that harshness does not defend truth; it betrays it. Animosity signals that one has ceased to act in the spirit of Christ, no matter how pious the content.
