You don't want to see the RAW file. 😂 Today is a good day to learn about RAW files. Please don't mistake RAW images as unedited images - that is simply not true. RAW is a file format that preserves all the information but actually produces a veeeery flat colour profile - way worse than what you would see with your own eyes. A camera is designed to take RAW images so that they can be processed however the photographer wants to produce the final image - RAW images are never the final output. Expose to the right is a common landscape photography term that is a theory on balancing exposure in your image. To expose your image this way, you’ll need to use the built-in histogram on your camera. Expose your image so that the values on the histogram are as far to the right as possible WITHOUT touching the right side of the graph. By avoiding values on the right side of the graph, you protect the highlights, ensuring that you don’t blow any highlights out in your image. This is generally the recommendation for landscapes because it’s much easier to recover shadows that are too dark than blown-out highlights. Use expose to the right for landscape photography to give yourself the most opportunity when working with your RAW files!

But here’s the truth: RAW files are like unseasoned food tbh you wouldn’t serve it at a dinner party without cooking it first, right? RAW = Unedited. Unfinished. Untamed. They’re meant for post-production magic, not to share 🫣. Why we don’t usually send them: • They’re HUGE files not iPhone-friendly • They’re not color-corrected, retouched, or cropped • They don’t represent our final vision or your brand in the best light ….BUT if you do need them (for commercial editing or in-house post work), just let us know why and we’ll build it into your package with context, intention, and quality still top of mind. RAW files…to give…or not to give? 📸👀 - Let’s get one thing straight shooters, I shoot in RAW+JPEG, which means im give my client all the JPEGs and I’m also to edit the RAWs once they pick which ones they want. When I say I give my clients the RAW image I don’t meant the actual raw file, I mean the unedited photo (JPEG). I found myself not using the remaining photos after every shoot, and clients weren’t trying to purchase them either. What I quickly thought of was to just raise my prices and incorporate the RAW files into the package, and that was the trick that did it. So if you want to sell your RAW images you can, don’t let anybody steer you away other wise. This is why we don't share RAW files. RAW and C-RAW files contain every piece of data from a photo including the date, time, GPS Coordinates, camera settings, and so on. Sharing RAW photos with others allows them to process your work differently, and then pass it on as their own and/or entering contests, with the possibility of making profit. When doing photographic collaborations, I will typically put it through a Denoising program and send it as a DNG file, withholding all photographic information and keeping my initial work for myself. These files are not typically taken to show off straight away, which is why many social medias and competitions do not accept RAW files, but rather JPG, DNG (etc). It never left my side 📸🇯🇵 The day we decided to plan a 3 week trip to Japan was the day I also decide to invest in my dream camera. I had been chasing the ultra high-res look for so long on my X-T3, ever since I got into printing. I had heard such amazing thing about the GFX, and not just for the resolution. What excited me most was the power of the raw files and what you can do in editing. I also loved the idea of having a larger camera. I’m not sure why, but it’s so much more enjoyable to sling around a larger format body when I’m shooting (just personal preference).
