SCنور سفید خورشید تشکیل شده از طیف های مختلف با طول موج های مختلف. بیشترین طول موج مربوط به طیف قرمزه و کمترین طول موج مربوط به طیف آبی و بنفش. هنگامی که این نور سفید وارد جو زمین میشه با ذراتی که توی اتمسفر وجود دارن برخورد می کنه و هر طیف نوری نسبت به طول موجی که داره پراکنده میشه. هرچقدر طول موج کمتر باشه، پراکندگی بیشتر میشه. مثلا این نور سفید که وارد جو زمین میشه، اول مقداری از طیف بنفشش رو از دست میده و کم کم نور آبی و به همین ترتیب نور سفید تبدیل به رنگ زرد، نارنجی و نهایتا قرمز میشه و وقتی خورشید غروب می کنه کلا نورش به ما نمی رسه و برای همینه که شب آسمون سیاهه. به این پراکندگی توی فیزیک، پراکندگی رایلی میگن.
