In the sixth inning of Tuesday night’s game, Aaron Judge rocketed a solo homer off Jays pitcher Alek Manoah.

Sitting in the outfield was Michael Lanzillotta, who reached out to grab it. But it bounced off the tips of his fingers, he said, and landed in his hot dog tray.

“I picked it up and, you know, tried to celebrate a bit and I was like: 'Oh, wait. I gotta give this ball to this kid,'” Lanzillotta told CBC News.

He turned around and without hesitation handed the baseball to Derek Rodriguez, who leapt into his arms and burst into tears.
•
Rodriguez was wearing Judge’s No. 99 on his back.
•
“After all, he could have just kept or [thrown] it back but instead of doing that he passed the ball to me,” said Rodriguez.
•
"I said to myself, is that a human being or is that an angel from heaven?"
•
The pair had met earlier in the night. Lanzillotta said he had been trying to help Rodriguez snag a ball from the Yankees bullpen located below their second-deck seats.

“I’m yelling down to the bullpen — ‘Hey! Throw us up a ball for this kid. Throw us up a ball.’ First inning goes by. Second inning,” Lanzillotta said. “But nobody’s paying attention to us. He’s kind of getting down on himself.
•
“And I told him: ‘Listen, we’re getting you a ball one way or another. Before we leave tonight, we’re going to get you a ball.’”

The evening didn’t end quite as well for the Jays.
•
The Yankees downed them 9-1 on Tuesday, extending their winning streak to 11 games.

Rodriguez brought the ball to school to show his classmates.

It never ceases to amaze me that when you #justopenthedoor, it changes everything. You know that I started using this property long before it was finished. Ironically, it’s far from completed but you can’t really tell because I’m the master of creative concealment. 😂😍 Also I am a hard core adult who appreciates the small things when concrete and vacuums make me this happy.

I’ve only had gravel at our own house. I still spend hours weeding our driveway, but now that I know the difference, I may start contemplating a little paved area at our home - Huckleberry Haven. It’s truly the little things that are the big things, so for those of you who haven’t thought twice about your paved drive, be so grateful for it today on my behalf and gather some neighbors on it for a spontaneous gathering. ❤️
