It’s vital for Black women to prioritize sunscreen use, especially during menopause.
As we experience hormonal changes in midlife, our skin may become more sensitive to UV damage, which can lead to slower healing and conditions like Idiopathic Guttate Hypomelanosis (IGH) those small white spots that can appear on sun-exposed skin over time.
While melanin provides some natural protection, it doesn’t equate to immunity. Daily SPF application is crucial for maintaining skin health.
Here are some effective ways to safeguard your beautiful skin:
✔️ Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily (yes, even on cloudy days!)
✔️ Wear wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses for additional shield
✔️ Seek shade during peak UV hours to minimize exposure
✔️ Stay consistent with your routine your skin will thank you in the long run
