Turns out, rugby is a whole lot harder than the players make it look.
Obviously the tackles look gnarly af. Even the celebratory on-pitch cuddles and back slaps after a try look tear-inducing. But when they’re these teeny tiny little ants trotting around the tv screen doing passing drills, it all looks…. ***don’t say easy*** kind of achievable?
So I went to Twickenham rugby stadium to see for myself and was given a ball to get some content with. I didn’t want the classic basic “look, I’m holding a ball” shot so thought I’d do something a shade more active. Which, in hindsight, was my first mistake.
It’s hard to describe how strongly I backed myself to catch this throw (note: I actually threw it to myself so was arguably in the best possible position to catch it 😬🤓) Not only did I fail spectacularly to catch the ball, it actually bounced (quite hard, I’ll add) off my head and ricocheted onto the pitch.
My bad.

OKOnce a tackle is complete - the ball carrier must make the ball available ✅
Momentum means the ball carrier may not make the ball immediately available but if the player lands and takes an extra roll to avoid a jackler form stealing the ball - then this is a PK 🏉
⭐️ Referee tip • How does the extra roll happen? Momentum or does the player propel themselves?
⭐️ Player tip • If you are a jacker show a good clear release and go for the ball. A positive picture shown to the referee may mean you get rewarded
