Riverfront Phase 2 stretching from Shahibaug Dufnala to Indira Bridge (5.5 km) is shaping up with a major new landmark: a barrage-cum-bridge, the city’s second barrage.
Built with air-filled rubber tubes to control the Sabarmati’s current, this structure is designed to bring wider benefits for people in Amdavad and North Gujarat.

AHસાબરમતી નદી ખાલી કરવામાં આવશે!
• 1 એપ્રિલ 2026થી 15 જૂન 2026 સુધી લગભગ અઢી મહિના (2.5 મહિના) સુધી નદીનો પટ્ટો પાણી વગરનો (ખાલી) રહેશે.
• રાજ્યના સિંચાઈ વિભાગ દ્વારા વાસણા બેરેજ (Vasna Barrage)ના મોટા પાયે સમારકામ અને અપગ્રેડેશનનું કામ હાથ ધરવાનું છે.
• બેરેજના આશરે 30 દરવાજાઓમાંથી 18 દરવાજા નવા બદલવાના છે અને બાકીના રિપેર કરવાના છે.
• આ કામ માટે બેરેજમાં જમા પાણીને સંપૂર્ણપણે છોડી દેવામાં આવશે (મુખ્યત્વે ફતેહવાડી કેનાલ અને નીચેના વિસ્તારોમાં).
આ સમયગાળા દરમિયાન અમદાવાદના રિવરફ્રન્ટ વિસ્તારમાં (વાસણા બેરેજથી ઉપરના ભાગ સુધી) પાણી રહેશે નહીં.
• આ તકનો લાભ લઈને સુભાષ બ્રિજ (Subhash Bridge)ના જૂના સ્ટ્રક્ચર/સ્પાનને તોડી પાડવાનું કામ પણ થશે. બ્રિજનો કાટમાળ નદીમાં ન પડે તે માટે આ નિર્ણય લેવાયો છે.
• અમદાવાદ મ્યુનિસિપલ કોર્પોરેશન (AMC) દ્વારા આ બ્રિજને 235 કરોડ રૂપિયાના ખર્ચે નવો, આધુનિક અને વધુ મજબૂત બ્રિજ બનાવવાની યોજના છે.
આ પહેલાં 2025માં પણ (મે-જૂન 2025) બેરેજના રિપેર અને સફાઈ માટે નદી ખાલી કરવામાં આવી હતી, જેમાં સ્વચ્છતા અભિયાન કરીને 945 ટન કચરો બહાર કાઢવામાં આવ્યો હતો.
આ કામગીરી ચોમાસા પહેલાં પૂર્ણ કરવાનો લક્ષ્ય છે જેથી મોસમી વરસાદ અને પૂરના સમયે બેરેજ સુરક્ષિત રહે. આ યોજના સિંચાઈ વિભાગ અને AMCના સંયુક્ત પ્રયાસથી અમલમાં મુકાઈ રહી છે.

AMThe Sabarmati River in Amdavad will be emptied from April 1 to June 15 to facilitate demolition work of the old Subhash Bridge near the Vadaj area.
The AMC has approved a ₹235-crore project to rebuild and widen the bridge after structural issues were reported in its span.
During this period, the upper structure of the existing bridge will be dismantled, while soil testing and groundwork for the new bridge are being carried out beneath the bridge.
