40 Weeks: The Ultimate Biological Masterpiece. 🧬 It’s a question I’m constantly exploring in my research here in Encinitas: How does a single cell transform into a breathing, crying, perfect human in just 280 days? Fetal development isn't just "growth"—it’s a highly coordinated, evidence-based sequence of events where timing is everything. From the first spark of conception to the final lung maturation, your body is performing the most complex task in nature. The Deep Research Milestones: The Critical First Trimester (Weeks 1-12): This is the high-sensitivity phase. By week 7, the heart is already beating. By week 11, the embryo officially becomes a fetus, with fingers, toes, and facial features defined. This is when the "blueprint" for every major organ system is laid down. The Rapid Second Trimester (Weeks 13-27): This is where the magic becomes felt. Around week 20, most moms feel those first kicks (quickening). The fetus can now swallow, hear your voice, and even develop a sleep-wake cycle. The Finishing Third Trimester (Weeks 28-40): This phase is all about weight gain and "brain-building." The lungs begin producing surfactant (essential for breathing), and the brain creates trillions of new neural connections every single day. Term Maturity: By week 37, the fetus is considered early-term. Those final weeks are crucial for fat storage and temperature regulation, preparing your baby for life outside the womb. Understanding these stages helps us appreciate just how much "work" your body is doing behind the scenes. It’s not just a journey; it’s a miracle of precision. 🌿🔬 🎁 WANT THE WEEK-BY-WEEK BLUEPRINT? I’ve developed a Fetal Development Tracker based on the latest clinical data to show you exactly what’s happening at every stage. 👉 Comment "GROWTH" below and I’ll DM you the guide for FREE! 💡 For evidence-based wellness that cuts through the noise, follow @drselenajenner. #DrSelenaJenner #EncinitasWellness #FetalDevelopment #PregnancyScience #HormoneHealth

I swear we just found out about our sweet baby no. four yesterday, and here we are, already 16 weeks along and well into the second trimester. 🤰🏼✨ I’ve had more nausea, fatigue, and food aversions than any of my previous pregnancies, so even though I told myself I would document this pregnancy better than the last, I just couldn’t get myself together enough so this is only the second official documentation of my growing belly. The first never made it online… Here’s to documenting more from here forward… 📸🫶🏼🎥 I’m pretty sure my pants stopped buttoning about ten seconds after we saw those two pink lines, and the aches and pains I’ve felt in the first trimester have had me feeling like I’m in the third trimester. I guess six pregnancies in six years will do that to ya. 🤭 I’ve been utterly exhausted most days, and to be honest I’ve felt so guilty, but my sweet babies have been so understanding and so willing to cater to their mama, along with my husband. I’ve had the most wild food aversions, finding food that tastes good has felt nearly impossible… not even dessert (iykyk). 😳 @masa_chips and salsa, @eatlovebird cereal and raw milk, @solelyfruit fruit jerky, and giant bowls of fresh fruit though… they have been saving my life! Even with the wild symptoms this go around, I couldn’t be more grateful for the gift of growing another precious little miracle in my womb. After years of infertility and multiple miscarriages, I wonder each time if it’ll be our “last.” I just can’t believe I get to do this again. This baby, the miracle of pregnancy, is a gift I will never take for granted. 🤎 Mamas, are you expecting a little miracle? How many weeks are you and how are you feeling? What’s your wildest symptom, craving, or food aversion?

When I got pregnant this time around, I really hoped I would be able to keep training and stay active. My first pregnancy was hard and training was completely out of the question. Luckily every pregnancy is different, and this time I can still keep swimming, biking and running but the first trimester fatigue and nausea hit me just as hard as the first time 😂 Now that I’m entering the second trimester, I’m finally starting to feel better and I’m excited to slowly start training again 🤩 I’ll try to share my experience along the way, because during my first pregnancy I was desperately searching for any information or guidance on how to train during these months and there was so little out there 😟

Mamas, were you able to stay active during pregnancy? I’m incredibly grateful for a healthy, low-risk pregnancy that’s allowed me to keep moving my body 🤍 Fitness has been part of my life for over 10 years, and I truly didn’t know what training would look like during pregnancy but I knew I wanted to continue. The first trimester (and most of the second) felt harder than I expected. Energy was low, weights came down, and I focused on what simply felt good. But toward the end of the second trimester and into the third, something shifted. My energy improved, my strength came back, and training started to feel like me again. At 35 weeks, my workouts look very similar to pre-pregnancy. Despite staying active and overall eating healthy, I have gained about 30lbs! I will say the weight gain and body changes haven’t always been easy but staying active has helped me physically and mentally 🙏 Although it does feel like I’m operating on about 20% lung capacity these days 😮‍💨🤣 Almost there 🩵

At 17 years old, the summer after graduating high school, I passed out for the first time in my ex boyfriend’s truck. The next day I passed out 12 times. Over the next 9 months it grew to 30 times a day. I had adrenaline dumps that looked like seizures. And no one could tell me why. I spent that 9 months in the office of every specialist you can think of until a tilt table test at my new family doctor finally diagnosed me with severe POTS. Allergy testing confirmed food sensitivities that made it worse and over the following 7 years I have fought the journey of slow healing. So often I prayed for the Lord to take it from me in an instantaneous, miraculous work. And He never did. But He healed me slowly. Steadily over years as Josh had to leap to catch my unconscious form less and less. Slowly as I learned to eat what fueled my body. Learned that gradual deliverance is no less miraculous. Pregnancy brought me out of remission, and I struggled with the increased blood volume. I passed out several times in my second trimester. I went on light duty at work. I stopped working at 35 weeks. I was terrified for postpartum and another big fluid shift. And yet by the grace of God. I would tell you my body slipped right back into remission the moment she came out. Despite a traumatic delivery. And I’m not 17 anymore. And holding my daughter in her first Christmas Eve service I can say the girl who was learning how to struggle with the Lord for the first time? I haven’t been her in a long time. #pots #pregnancy

Safe Core Modifications for Pregnancy (Weeks 13–40 🤰) Comment SAFE & I’ll send you a free prenatal fitness guide to break everything down for you trimester by trimester for what is safe in pregnancy 🩷 Pregnant and wondering “can I even work my core anymore?” YES. You just need smarter modifications — not endless crunches or holding your breath. From the second trimester through week 40, your core work should focus on pressure management, deep core engagement, and functional strength — aka the stuff that supports your bump, protects your pelvic floor, and actually helps with birth + recovery. These modifications help: ✔️ Minimize coning & doming ✔️ Support your pelvic floor ✔️ Build strength without strain ✔️ Prep your body for labor AND postpartum recovery If your core feels shaky, tight, or totally different each trimester — you’re not broken. Your body is adapting, and your workouts should adapt too 💛 Save this for later, follow along, and train with confidence through every stage of pregnancy. #pregnancyworkout #pregnancycore #pregnancyexercise
