Liberals will get mad at just about anything. They were happy with Obama and Biden doing the deportations, but when Trump does it, it’s suddenly a problem. That’s how political opposition can get: petty, contradictory, and stupid. It’s not about the policy; it’s about the person in charge. There’s a reason why liberal women are attracted to conservative men; they haven’t been castrated by society yet. If a Democrat candidate did the deportations, no one would care, and if the script was flipped, they’d protest Republicans for letting in illegal aliens freely.
This brand of petty, contradictory leadership mirrors the late Roman Empire during the 4th Century. Under Emperor Valens, the Romans allowed a massive influx of Goths across the Danube, promising integration while the Senate bickered over the “morality” of the move. When the situation inevitably spiraled into a crisis, the elite didn’t blame their own mismanagement; they used the chaos to launch character attacks on their rivals.
Rome thrived when its borders were respected and its laws were absolute. However, towards the end, the leadership became obsessed with political theater and appeasing factions rather than the cold, hard reality of protecting the state. They argued in the Forum while the foundations of their sovereignty crumbled. We are running the same loop today, trading national security for a performance of selective empathy that ignores the long-term survival of the Republic.
Thinking we’ve evolved past this tribalism is the real joke when we’ve really just gotten better at televised hypocrisy.
