Here are 3 more examples for how to apply the “semantic elaboration” technique, and an added tip. 1. John Miller - Picture John Green (or the first famous John you think of) wearing an apron and covered in flour from the mill. 2. Elizabeth Clark - Picture Elizabeth (the queen or Swan from Pirates) making out with Clark Kent. 3. David Anderson - Picture the famous marble statue of David fighting Neo from the matrix. One key limitation of this method is that it focuses on using the imagery to CONNECT the first and last name by combining them in an image, but it still relies on being cued by one or the other, as they did in the study. To make this method even more robust for when you meet someone in person, try to include the appearance of that person in whatever mental image you are building. E.g. for 1: Picture John Green on top of this person’s shoulders. 2: This person is in between the makeout session, with an embarrassed look. Or joining in? 🤔 3. This person is referee for the fight. #science #memory #memorytechniques #student #learning #psychology #neuroscience 📚Study DOI: 10.1002/acp.1115

Memorizing 200 pages in 3 hours? 🤯 It’s not magic, it’s just using the right study techniques. Active recall, spaced repetition, and a solid study system make it possible. Stop wasting time passively reading—use tools that actually test you and force your brain to remember. The secret isn’t studying harder, it’s studying smarter. 🧠📚

"Yaffa" directed by Nada El-Omari. Yaffa is a short experimental film in which space and time become meshed together to form the fragments we create our stories from. In those pieces of images, memories arise and stories retell themselves. It is through our mutual time, words, explorations and spaces that I realized my grandfather gifted me a home. #ExperimentalFilm #ShortFilm #artfilm #visualpoetry #memoryandtime #PersonalCinema #experimentalcinema #FilmArt #labocine

🔍 Riddle You remember the lyrics clearly. The tune feels familiar. But the song name just won’t appear. What’s failing here? A) Memory loss B) Recall mismatch C) Poor attention 👉 The answer is revealed at the last ! …. Scroll down 👇 You didn’t stop scrolling by accident… 💕 The brain stores information in different systems. Lyrics are often encoded as semantic memory, while melodies are stored as auditory patterns. When you try to search using only words, the brain struggles to access the musical cue linked to them. That’s why this feels frustrating. The information isn’t missing , it’s separated. Recognition would work instantly if you heard the tune, but recall fails when the wrong memory pathway is used. Now the insight 👇 If you chose B), you understood the mechanism. It’s not forgetfulness — it’s a mismatch between how memory is stored and how it’s being searched. People who notice this stop blaming their memory and start changing the cue. Follow @joieditz for insights where ciência, psicologia, and comportamento humano quietly intersect.

MEMORY SYSTEMS AND ENGRAMS I’ve been getting into what a memory is and have some cool nuggets for u nerds to think about. So in the literature there are different memory systems that they talk about, semantic, episodic, procedural blah blah blah whatever but let’s consider one - episodic. This type of memory is characterized by the ability to remember specific events from your past. Now just like many of you, I am aware that I have clearly false memories. I have a memory of seeing a snowman and snow outside a window from when I was young but I was born in Colombia and there is no snow there. So it for sure didn’t happen. This clearly false memory still functions in the same way as a genuine one. So that made me wonder what the difference between imagination and memories are, was my false memory an episodic memory or recalled imagination then, in which case it would be like kinda a memory. Funny enough though both of these things (imagination and episodic remembering) are terribly similar from a neural perspective. Another thing I’ve talked about before but will retell is this field of research that’s hunting for the “engram”. A hypothesized imprint that memories could have on the brain. That’s to say that, in theory, if I knew everything about your memory systems I would be able to point out the part or network of your brain responsible for your memory of your cat, or 12th birthday or first kiss. It’s the idea that memories have physical imprints on the mind. Cool enough they were able to demonstrate this with optogenetics in rats which is pretty neat. Now I wonder if a false memory would have the same makeup as a genuine one. If not then idk things get tricky and sci fi people can run with that idea to make a movie or something.
