Let me show vou Here are some of the most common sleepy signals to watch tor: wilal it means → Eye rubbing - Classic tired sign! When the eyes get heavy, the hands usually follow. → Yawning - More than once? They’re probably ready for a nap. → Fussiness or crankiness - Sometimes “melt- down mode” is just a baby saying, “I need sleep!” → Glassy eyes / staring into space - That little dazed look = overtired is coming fast VOu → Slower movements - Kicks, wiggles, and play slow down when the tank is empty. → Loss of interest - Suddenly ignoring toys or people? I was shocked when I learned this Ever wonder if your baby is tired or just fussy? 😅 Babies actually give us little clues when they’re ready for sleep and once you know what to look for, bedtime gets so much easier. 💛 Here are some of the most common sleepy signals to watch for: • Eye rubbing – Classic tired sign! When the eyes get heavy, the hands usually follow. • Yawning – More than once? They’re probably ready for a nap. • Fussiness or crankiness – Sometimes “melt-down mode” is just a baby saying, “I need sleep!” • Glassy eyes / staring into space – That little dazed look = overtired is coming fast. • Slower movements – Kicks, wiggles, and play slow down when the tank is empty. • Loss of interest – Suddenly ignoring toys or people? It’s time to wind down. • Ear tugging, hair pulling, head scratching – For some babies, these are self-soothing sleep cues. 💡 Important note: Once your baby is past 12 weeks, sleepy cues can be tricky and sometimes they don’t show them clearly at all. That’s why wake windows become such a lifesaver. I remember with my baby, she used to pull at her ears , rub her face constantly or pat on her head and I had no idea why. I thought it was teething or an ear infection every time. Turns out, she was just tired... and I was missing the cues completely. The key: learn your baby’s unique combo of cues AND pair it with age-appropriate wake windows. That’s when sleep really clicks. 💤 Save this for bedtime tonight, and tell me what’s YOUR baby’s biggest sleep cue? 👇 Share with a mama or dada that could use this! #babysleeptips #babysleephelp #babysleepingtips #mom #parentingtips

Ever noticed your baby rubbing their eyes or face right before sleep? It may look like a “habit” ❌ And it’s not something to rush to stop ❌ It’s often your baby’s way of coping with tiredness and sensory overload as they wind down for sleep 🌙 When babies are getting tired or overstimulated, they may rub their eyes/face to self-settle and block out stimulation. It’s a sleep cue that tells you: “I need rest soon.” ✨ What helps: ✔ Offer sleep at the first tired signs .. before they get overtired ✔ Keep wake windows age-appropriate ✔ Create a calm, predictable wind-down routine ✔ Dim lights & reduce noise before naps and bedtime ✔ Support gentle self-settling When babies are guided to sleep at the right time, they settle easier and rest more peacefully 🤍 🌙 SAVE this for the next time you see eye-rubbing & SHARE it with a parent who might need it ♥️ If your child does this - drop “YES” in comments ✨🫵🏻 #babysleepawareness #sleepcues #gentlesleep #babysleeptip #parentingeducation [Why babies rub eyes before sleep, Baby self soothing behaviour, Baby sleep cues, Signs baby is tired, Gentle baby sleep tips ] VC - itsjilianne_eloisse

Save this for when you are unsure about sleepy cues! One of the biggest mistakes I see? Waiting too long. Most parents think baby needs to be really tired before sleep… but by then, you’ve often missed the window. These early cues are your signal 👇 👉 Eyes drooping This is often the first clear sign. Their eyes get heavy, blinking slows, and they start to struggle to stay engaged. 👉 Glazed / “zoned out” look They stop focusing on you or their surroundings and seem a bit distant, like they’re mentally switching off. 👉 Ear pulling This can be a subtle tired cue. Babies will often rub or tug at their ears as they start to wind down (not always teething, often just fatigue). 👉 Relaxed, floppy body Their body softens, movements slow down, and they feel heavier in your arms, a great sign they’re ready for sleep. This is the sweet spot. If you miss it, your baby can tip into overtiredness and that’s when you get: • fighting sleep • short naps • frequent wake-ups And it feels like nothing works. But when you start catching these cues consistently? Sleep becomes way more predictable. No guessing. No battling. Just better timing.

Comment CALM and I’ll send you the step by step blueprint to calmer nights and better sleep 💤 Most parents don’t realise these small things can quietly make nights much harder than they need to be… 😵‍💫 When we had our first baby, nights felt endless. 👎 Rocking for ages. 👎 Constant wake-ups. 👎 Wondering what we were doing wrong. But a lot of babies don’t struggle with sleep because they’re “bad sleepers.” Often it comes down to a few simple things happening during the day and around bedtime. Here are 3 common mistakes that can lead to more night wake-ups 👇 1️⃣ Feeding every single wake-up Not every wake means hunger. Sometimes babies just need help settling between sleep cycles. 2️⃣ Waiting until baby is overtired By the time babies show obvious tired signs, their stress hormones are often already rising — which can make settling much harder. 3️⃣ No consistent bedtime routine Simple cues like bath time, dim lights, or a calm wind-down help signal to your baby that sleep is coming. ✨ The encouraging part? Small changes here can make a surprisingly big difference in how easily babies fall asleep, and how often they wake overnight. If nights currently feel like a cycle of rocking, feeding, and repeat wake-ups… 💬 Comment CALM and I’ll send you the blueprint I used to get 7+ hours sleep every night 🌙 #babysleep #babysleeptips #newbornsleep #newdad #sleepdeprivedmom

Many parents feel that if their baby isn’t crying or rubbing their eyes, they must not be sleepy yet. So they keep playing with them, feeding them, or stretching their awake time. But babies at this age can get overtired very quickly, even if they look active and happy. When a baby stays awake longer than their body can handle, their body releases stress hormones like cortisol. This makes it harder for them to relax and fall asleep. Instead of sleeping peacefully, they may start fighting sleep, crying during naps, or waking up multiple times at night. An overtired baby may also take very short naps, wake up cranky, or seem unusually hyper just before sleep time. Many parents think their baby simply “doesn’t like sleep”, but often the real reason is that their wake windows are too long. Most babies between 6–12 months can stay awake for around 2–3 hours at a time before they need sleep. Following age-appropriate wake windows, watching early sleep cues like staring off, slowing down, or becoming quiet, and having a consistent nap routine can help babies fall asleep more easily. Sometimes a small change in timing can completely transform your baby’s sleep routine. If your baby is waking frequently at night, the first thing to fix is… Your response + Most parents mean well, but the wrong reaction can make the waking last longer than it needs to. Here’s what not to do when your baby wakes at night: Do not pick your baby up immediately (unless it’s truly needed). Babies are noisy sleepers, and if you give them a moment, they can often settle back on their own. Picking them up too quickly can fully wake them, making it harder for them to fall back asleep. Do not turn on bright lights. Light signals to the brain that it’s morning, making it harder for your baby to go back to sleep. Do not feed instantly just because it’s nighttime. This can create a “feed-to-sleep” habit, and your baby may start relying on it even when they’re not hungry. Avoid talking, playing, or changing nappies unless necessary. Keep the environment calm, low-stimulation, and consistent. Do not try too many different soothing methods at once. This can overstimulate your baby and turn a short waking into a long one. Pause a little, stay calm, keep it dark, and stick to one simple settling method. Your baby learns through your consistency—and that’s what improves their sleep at night. If you are a mum or dad who wants better overall sleep—not just fewer night wakings—you’re in the right place. That’s exactly why I created a baby sleep guide.
