The AAP recommends starting solids around 6 months when babies show: ✔️ Sitting with support ✔️ Stable head control ✔️ Interest in food ✔️ Ability to move food to the back of the mouth In this video, my 5-month-old isn’t ready for solids yet, even with the towel there! This is an important time for baby to strengthen their muscles used for chewing, drinking and swallowing as well as overall coordination! Here are a few items that will make this transition go smoother: 🍎 transitional silverware 🍎 open cup 🍎 straw cup (expect baby to master around 9 months) 🍎 silicone plates 🍎 silicone bibs 🍎 food cutters for shaping food in appropriate size and giving it a textured grip ✨ Follow @babblinbaby for more feeding tips! My team and I aim to educate parents on how to support their baby & toddler’s speech, feeding, and motor development at home! Here is a great visual of why most 4-month-olds are not ready for solids (yes, solids also means purées!) Why? Their motor skills are just not where they should be for eating- and that’s okay! Because we don’t expect 4-month-olds to be ready to eat foods! ➡️A baby who is not stable in the high chair is much less likely to have a good time at meals. ➡️Sitting up independently (6-7 month milestone) and great head control are extremely important for swallowing safety and choking prevention. ➡️A baby who isn’t reaching out and bringing items to mouth (6 month milestone) is not likely to self-feed. Self-feeding is important for swallowing safety and for participation in meals! ❌Many parents are so focused on starting solids the day their little one turns X months old or the second their pediatrician gives a green light. But let’s think again. ✅Instead keep ~6 months in mind for a starting age and make sure baby has all the skills on the First Bites Checklist before offering foods! ➡️We break this down and more in our Starting Solids Resources! 🥑Written with input from several Feeding Specialists, an Occupational Therapist, a Lactation Consultant, and a Registered Dietitian, our resources give you the confidence you need to start solids, and actually enjoy mealtimes! ➡️ Comment “SOLIDS” to check them out!

Start with any fruits or vegetables and keep introducing new ones everyday. Some people say you should feed the same ingredients for days but as I researched, you can introduce one new ingredient everyday and only top allergens for 3 days. That way baby will be able to come to family pot by 8 months. It is very important to introduce only one new ingredient per day and Make different recipes with already introduced ingredients. Ideally the quantity of food should be 1-2 tbsp but let your baby decide the quantity.
