PIOur Trail Crew recently teamed up with the incredible sawyers from @pisgahareasorba to tackle a big milestone: clearing Big Creek Trail for the first time since Helene.
This remote, mixed-use trail drops five miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway to the Hendersonville Reservoir in North Mills River, and it hasn’t been passable top to bottom in 16 months.
Together, our teams removed 49 downed trees obstructing the trail!
Thanks to this collaborative saw work effort, Big Creek is now clear from start to finish.
A note for visitors: Helene’s impact is still very visible along this corridor. While trees no longer block the trail, expect several wet crossings and a prolonged stretch of ankle-deep water on the trail itself. Come prepared and plan accordingly.
