Here’s a fun and easy science experiment for kids: Dancing Corn!🌽 You’ll need a bottle or a glass, water, 2 tsp of baking soda, vinegar, and popcorn kernels. Fill the glass with water, stir in baking soda, then add the corn. Finally, pour in a good splash of vinegar and watch the magic happen, bubbles lift the kernels up and make them dance! 💃✨ 💡 What’s happening? When vinegar and baking soda react, they produce carbon dioxide gas. Tiny CO₂ bubbles stick to the corn, lifting them to the surface. Once the bubbles pop, the kernels sink again up and down like a little dance! Bisa ngga pake tisu biasa? Bisa, tapi hasilnya bisa beda. Tisu biasa (misalnya tisu wajah atau tisu toilet) seratnya lebih halus dan mudah sobek. Warna bisa naik, tapi jalurnya mungkin ngga sejernih atau sejauh yang diharapkan. Tisu dapur seratnya lebih tebal dan kuat, daya serapnya tinggi, jadi air (dan warna) bisa merambat lebih jelas dan jauh. 2. Spidol water-based itu apa? Spidol water-based adalah spidol yang tintanya berbahan dasar air, jadi bisa larut dalam air. Beda sama dengan spidol permanent/whiteboard yang biasanya berbasis alkohol. Biasanya spidol untuk anak-anak (marker washable) itu water-based, jd lebih aman dan mudah dibersihkan. 3. Aku udah pernah coba, tapi yang aku tinta spidolnya malah kebanyakan larut di air dan sedikit yang “merambat” ke tisu? Walaupun sama-sama water-based, tiap spidol punya formulasi berbeda. Ada yang tintanya dye-based (hampir larut total dalam air), spidol tipe ini warnanya langsung turun ke air dan kurang ikut naik ke tisu. Ada juga yang lebih pekat warnanya dan lebih menempel di serat kertas/tisu. Tipe ini warnanya akan ikut merambat naik ke tisu bersama air. When you mix water-based food colouring with oil, you will see many tiny droplets of food colouring stuck in it. That is because food colouring is denser than oil, but bit by bit, droplets will submerge to the bottom of the oil layer, where they meet water and start colouring it. Penjelasan nya : Minyak dan air tidak bisa bercampur. Minyak kurang padat dibandingkan air dan mengapung di atas air. Pewarna makanan berbahan dasar air sehingga dapat bercampur dengan air. Saat pewarna makanan dimasukkan ke dalam minyak, pewarna tidak akan tercampur. Setelah minyak ditambahkan ke dalam air, tetesan pewarna makanan mulai berjatuhan karena lebih berat daripada minyak. Begitu jatuh ke dalam air, mereka mulai larut dan terlihat seperti ledakan kecil (atau kembang api). Who knew eggshells had so many uses? Not long ago we discovered they were great for kids craft activities, and turns out they are great for kids science activities too! I stumbled upon this egg shell geode activity on Pinterest and I knew L would love it. There’s so many variations of this activity, but I decided to follow the recipes that use borax, as we already had some at home. It’s fascinating seeing a normal egg shell transform into a beautiful, colourful, sparkly treasure. Ingredients/Materials 2 - 3 eggs (this recipe uses 5 halves) 5 glasses 4 cups boiling water 1 3/4 cup borax powder Food colouring Method Add boiling water into a bowl, and gradually stir in borax until it no longer dissolves. Divide the water into 5 glasses (this should equal 3/4 cups in each glass) and leave any undissolved borax in the bowl. Add desired colours into each glass and add one egg shell piece with the inside facing up per glass. This is best done when the water is hot so work quickly. Leave the glasses undisturbed for 1 - 2 days, then remove and dry on a paper towel for another 24 hours. Notes - Some recipes specify to crack the eggs in a special way. I just saved our shells as we used eggs in cooking so they were just cracked in a standard way and it will worked perfectly. Ensure you clean your eggs before doing this activity. - I added all of my borax powder in one go and ended up with a lot that didn’t dissolve in the solution and was wasted. I think it would work better to add it gradually (but still working quickly) if you want to avoid wastage. - I used about 8 drops in each glass and we ended up with these pretty pastel geodes, but if you want brighter colours I’d add a lot more than that! I mean they are all the craze on insta at the moment right?! 😂🙈 All you need is - 🐠 recycled bottle 🐠 elastic bands 🐠 large paddle pop sticks 🐠 smaller paddle pop sticks 🐠 hot glue gun We used physics to make our fish move. “For every action is an equal and opposite reaction” - Newton’s third law. We wanted to move forward so we need to create a force to push the water backwards. We made a propeller with the small paddle pop sticks. 🐚CRYSTAL SEASHELLS🐚 This is one of the coolest science experiments we have ever tried😱... Who knew you could grow your own crystals overnight with only a couple of ingredients?! My toddler and I were absolutely fascinated by this epic stem activity🤯 Here's how👇 💎 Make a saturated borax solution by dissolving borax powder in boiling water. We used the ratio of 1 cup of water to 4 tbsp of borax powder. You can add food dye in at this step, too, if you want to add colour to your crystals🌈 💎 Place the seashells into the borax solution. 💎 Cover and let sit undisturbed for 24 hours. 💎 Let the shells dry on a paper towel before you explore them. 💎If you have leftover crystals stuck to the bottom of the bowl, simply add boiling water, and they will dissolve away. I would recommend using a clear glass bowl for this experiment so your little ones can observe the crystals growing without disturbing the shells. We noticed crystals appearing within 4 hours, and they just kept on growing! We paired ours with the beautiful sandcastle tray from @daisy____bee for some small world play, but they would also be perfect for all kinds of arts and crafts activities (imagine painting them 😍) or decor/decorations too.
