CRKeep them busy with a fun summer craft idea: flower art!
Step 1. Remove leaves & cut flowers from their stems.
Step 2. Place flowers between 2 paper towels & microwave at 50% power for 1 minute. Repeat for 30 seconds as needed until dry.
Step 3. Create your flower design on your canvas.
Step 4. Use glue to stick flowers onto the canvas and let dry.
Step 5. Spray flowers with a sealer to preserve them.
Step 6. Place onto wall and enjoy!

Oobleck is the best: it’s not a solid, it’s not a liquid, it’s just awesome. If you want to get fancy, it’s non-Newtonian 😉

I’m a big fan of oobleck over slime because it dissolves in water & is safer for little players. I always have the ingredients, and have been making this for my kids since they were about 18 months old.
➡️RECIPE is always a 2:1 ratio of cornstarch to water. THAT’S IT⬅️

WILL IT STAIN? I used a few drops of food coloring, heavily diluted in water. Food coloring is water soluble which means if it gets on clothing, it just needs to sit in cold water to rinse out.

DOES IT SAVE? It hardens but can be brought back to life with a little water. It’s also fun when frozen. BUT this isn’t going to last days and days like slime or play dough.

HOW DO YOU DISPOSE OF IT? You flood it. I turn on the hose and add tons of more water to counteract the thickening. It “dissolves” the oobleck properties and it’s back to water.

IS IT TASTE SAFE? Cornstarch is a common cooking supply, but technically shouldn’t be consumed raw so don’t let this get into a buffet like situation with your little one. Also do what is comfortable for you.

HOW TO CLEAN KIDS? A wet wash cloth. This comes off easy, not like slime. I keep one near my kids while they play.

LODid you know that your child first encounters symmetry as a baby when they look at your face? 👀
Facial features typically follow a pattern of “bilateral symmetry,” or mirror images divided by a central line 🪞 Your child may begin learning about symmetry in relation to math and science when they’re in grade school, but you can start exploring the concept with them when they’re 4. Here’s one activity you can try:
1️⃣Place a long, straight piece of painter’s tape on a flat surface. You can even do this outside!
2️⃣Collect materials—like craft sticks, pom-poms, or The Block Set—including at least two identical versions of each. Lay one of each version on the surface alongside one edge of the tape to create a design.
3️⃣Invite your child to assemble a mirror image of the design on the other side of the tape.
To do this, they'll need to go beyond matching the materials. Your child will also have to mentally rotate the pattern to envision its reflection 💫
