Have you faced this issue with a sunscreen? Do share your experiences in the comments on which ones didn’t work for you and the ones that did! Note that everyone may not have the same reasons to feel a particular sunscreen doesn’t work for them and this is very subjective. It doesn’t make one sunscreen better or worse than the other and is totally a matter of preference and skin types. I’ve covered some of the most common pain points and suggested recommendations based on that. There may be trial and error involved and I recommend doing your own research as well. 1️⃣. Not everyone is allergic to the same ingredients however, one of the common allergens include oxybenzone in which case look for ‘oxybenzone free sunscreens’. I love the pharmacy one by Uvicoz which is free oxybenzone and the ones by @reequil one that is free of oxybenzone and OMC. You might want to avoid mineral or hybrid sunscreens due to the presence of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide if they don’t suit you and go for purely chemical sunscreens. @isdin @beautyofjoseon_official are some of my favourites in this regard. 2️⃣. Make sure you’re applying a liberal amount of sunscreen on exposed body parts. Inadequate amount could lead to pigmentation and tanning which could make the skin appear darker. 3️⃣. If you suspect that sunscreen is darkening your skin, avoid sunscreens that contain vitamin C. An oxidised vitamin C in the sunscreen could lead to that effect. Refer to point 1 for recommendations. 4️⃣. It’s also a mistake to solely rely on sunscreen beyond 2-3 hours. Either reapply it or avoid peak hour exposure. Ensure you’re using physical barriers like a hat, cap, sunglasses especially for prolonged sun exposure such as afternoon time, while driving or in a vehicle or at the beach. Else you may think sunscreen is the cause of skin darkening but it could be the sun exposure which really is. 5️⃣. Lastly, opt for sunscreens that blend seamlessly into your skin without white cast or an ashy appearance which could make the skin to look darker. Refer to point 1 for options and go for tinted sunscreens if you’d like such as @qurezforyou @thedermacoindia @thepinkfoundry @larocheposay.
