All jokes aside, there are few people who can captivate an audience and truly embody their craft the way Bill does. I can’t speak much on the legends he fished alongside—though I know they too were legends themselves—but I can speak on Bill.
I’ve been fishing for a while, and I was lucky enough to have a cousin, fresh out of the Army Rangers, who found peace in figuring out Montauk. He basically lived out there. We took trips out there. And out there is where we both felt connected to something higher every time we fished.
I fished Montauk for a couple of years before I finally called Bill to book a guided trip. There’s something special about being under the wing of someone who’s mastered their craft so deeply that they know what’s around every corner, every bluff, every shift in tide or wind. That kind of knowledge—that instinct—is everything when you’re learning a place as complex as Montauk.
And honestly, I don’t think there’s anyone who knows that stretch of ocean quite like Bill. I’d love to know the total hours he’s logged under those starry Montauk skies.
If you never booked a trip with him, I encourage everyone to try it at least once. You certainly won’t regret it. Tight lines Billy Wetz - keep spitting that hot fire over Wutang Beats.
