LINEAGE ON THE LONG ROAD Im living in the region I was born for the first time in 20 years. Asking do I whakapapa here? Is 5 generations enough? Where else do I “belong”. While softly singing an Icaro learnt from my first Peruvian Maestra the inimitable, Reyna Luz Edery Flores. Her codes sit in my spirit and her noble being taught me how to walk as a medicine woman. Now I’m starting to dream in Shipibo another foreign tongue, as new geometries of light awaken inside and I feel the most tender grief, curious wonder and deep reverence for it all. The recent @the_emerald_podcast on outcasts and wanderers spoke of syncretism, the blending of spiritual practice arising within an organic, fluid process of culture making. I was in tears at how deep this hit. I’ve always felt strong resonance with the Romany, the “gypsies” I don’t know of any blood links so perhaps it’s just something they represent. The exiled, magical, adaptable travellers. The beauty, power and pain of “the road”. The meeting of new and old Gods in diverse lands while holding to your ancestral core. A dance between appropriation, assimilation and what it means to be intimately sensitive to the currents of place within evolutionary cycles of light and time. For me it’s an authentic, vital and sometimes lonely existence. But it’s nothing new, rather an ancient, essential archetype. So for now Im here, sinking into cellular memories of childhood, while also birthing this European tour which calls so loudly. On the Path of The Rose… following my astrological Venus lines back to lands my DNA remembers. Denmark, Greece, Sweden… meet me there? Or here? Or anywhere on the long road home. I’ll send out a Substack this week with details of the tour.
