SAHow to teach “Cross Paws” (part 1)
1. Hold one of your dog’s paws with your hand and lure your dog’s nose over the paw you are holding.
Do this slowly and mark with a “yes” or a clicker when your dog
moves his paw over the held one. Reward and repeat.
* ��I will try both paw sides first because same as humans, each dog has a side preference, so it will be easier if you identify his preferred side and start working on that one.
* ��If the lure doesn’t work with your dog, place your hand over the paw you’re holding with your other hand and try asking for “Paw”, “Shake,” or any command you use.
2. Repeat the process with the other paw.
3���. Add a hand signal while still holding the paw (*only when your pup gets the movement). If your pup only follows treats, you can reward him with the same hand you’re making the signal in the beginning; pass the treat later to the other hand ( the one holding the paw), and continue with your hand signal but this time reward with the other hand.
4. ���Remove your hand from your dog’s paw and continue practicing with your hand signal while you add a different verbal cue for each side.
5. Practice with the verbal cue only.
***If your dog doesn’t like you touching his paw, you must make him comfortable about it first. Touch one of his paws and reward him. Repeat this step and try increasing the time while holding his paw gradually.

Sometimes it is even necessary so it is easier to lead two dogs at the same time and create less possible surface for mistakes

Example: If we lead Ares and Athena at the same moment we are using their name to mark the individual character and give them verbal commands. Hand signals are an extra add-on to make sure that he will execute the right behavior.

If we just say the command in front of them two, than it mostly means that both of them have to do that behavior. Hand signals are fine to use but not really necessary at that point
