I've written a simple "Conway's game of life" sketch running on an @arduino.cc nano RP2040 and that 128x64 LCD based on the ST7565 controller I showed you in the previous post. If you don't know what I'm talking about, here is a quote from Wikipedia: "The Game of Life, also known as Conway's Game of Life or simply Life, is a cellular automaton devised by the British mathematician John Horton Conway in 1970.[1] It is a zero-player game,[2][3] meaning that its evolution is determined by its initial state, requiring no further input. One interacts with the Game of Life by creating an initial configuration and observing how it evolves. It is Turing complete and can simulate a universal constructor or any other Turing machine" As you can see, at the end a "glider" (a particular cellular pattern) is formed and it's inarrestabile. Navier-Stokes equations (ie that govern the behavior of fluids) are Turing complete. Ie for any given Turing machine (computer program) a stationary fluid flow can be constructed such that tracking the trajectory of a particle in the flow encodes the execution of the computer program. And since some problems are undecidable (ie uncomputable), physical systems can exist which - despite following fully deterministic laws - are inherently unpredictable. Not due to chaos or noise, but due to the limits of computation (and the laws of the universe) itself. This is a big deal. More soon… (video excerpt from WAVES 2014)

The essence of Turing completeness is not speed or efficiency but universality: if given unlimited memory and time, the system can compute anything that is computable. An important insight is that Turing completeness does not require a physical computer. In principle, all computer programs can be executed by hand on paper. Each instruction, whether it’s arithmetic, memory storage, or control flow, can be written down and carried out manually step by step, just as a human clerk could simulate a machine’s state transitions.
