TIThe $40 door makeover went viral for a reason.
But here’s what I’d refine if I did it again:
1. Trim depth matters more than you think (especially with lever hardware). 1/2” thick works well with levers or knobs.
2. Door proportions should mimic traditional panel spacing. Don’t try to make the top and bottom spaces equal.
3. Matte is beautiful… but durability wins long term.
I share all the wins and the refinements, because details are what separate “DIY” from “custom.”
