KEIt has been a VERY busy 8 days out of the hospital. My coaches and I decided that it makes the most sense for me head west sooner than later, so I can build my strength back post ICU in Utah with all of the US team resources. It was a daunting task for Grant and I to wrap our heads around, but we made a plan and took it one day at a time.
I was absolutely exhausted after the hospital, and needed to be deliberate about how I spent my energy. Slowly but surely things came together. Boot bag got packed first, second was clothes/other necessities, then came all of the medical supplies.
Planning what to bring with you when you’ll be gone skiing for 5 months is a lot for anyone, but I have the added challenge of packing all of the medical supplies I’m going to need for at least through Christmas! Not only is there an insane amount of medications, but I also have to travel with oxygen for flights and altitude…and then we add the wheelchair/crutches! It was mentally draining to think through all of this while still recovering, but between Grant’s help in person, and the support of my family and friends over the phone I was able to make it all happen.
This wasn’t how I planned on starting the adventure that is this winter, but now I couldn’t imagine it any other way. Starting off in true Kelsey style, nebulizers and all😝 First stop is Park City, Utah, then a brief trip to the Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, and off to Big Sky, Montana on the 13th for 2 weeks of on snow training.
For all of you that I know are worried and thinking “really Kelsey?” I hear you! I am listening to my body, and planning to SLOWLY ramp things up over the next few weeks. Thanks as always to my village. Couldn’t do ANY of this without your love and support🫶🏼
