Ambas nos sumergen en comunidades aisladas donde los rituales paganos persisten, desafiando la lógica, la moral y la idea de que vivimos en un mundo “moderno”.
En The Wicker Man, un policía devoto se enfrenta a una isla que ha sustituido el cristianismo por dioses antiguos. En Midsommar, una joven en duelo viaja con su pareja a una comuna sueca donde el dolor personal se diluye entre flores, cánticos y sacrificios.
Ari Aster ha reconocido la inevitable comparación, pero también ha señalado que su película es, en esencia, una ruptura amorosa disfrazada de terror folclórico. Para él, Midsommar , subvierte: toma lo familiar de The Wicker Man y lo transforma.
Ambas historias revelan algo inquietante: que debajo de nuestra vida civilizada aún palpita una necesidad de ritual, de sentido, de ofrenda. Y que - tal vez- no hemos cambiado tanto como nos gusta creer.

SEIt was an incredible Wickerman Gathering at Eamhain Mhacha (Navan Fort). Just want to give heartfelt thank you to @navancentrefort and everyone involved. Willow weaver Heather McDermott, who led the team in crafting the massive wicker effigy created an amazing willow figure. As the effigy burned, it was like their head took a bow and their arm moved almost like a gesture acknowledging the crowd.
As it burnt, the air was full with chants of "All hail Lugh!" and underneath the loud shouts were echoes of iconic lines from the 1973 film The Wicker Man, like "Summer is icumen in, loudly sing cuckoo!" and "It is time to keep your appointment with the Wicker Man."
Go raibh maith agat to the very talented artists, herbalists, face painters, visionaries and crafters there. And everyone who stopped by my stall to chat.
