Day two of playing with new camera angles. I ended the day at around 1700 words which was pretty good for me, but that count was hard fought. You can probably tell as these videos progress, I have the easiest time writing in the morning and by the afternoon, it’s very hard for me to think straight. I realize that is partly because I wake up so early but I’ve never been very productive after 3pm. This was an interesting week to document my writing progress because it’s really up and down but I think it reflects reality–some days are just harder than others. Some days you feel like you have to have written 5000 words and it’s only 500. That’s the irony of a hard working brain!

Things don't always go according to plan when you're a writer. Characters act out of character or take you far beyond the plot you laid out for them. The words don't always come. You stumble into plot holes, not knowing how to climb out. Your betas or editor might strongly suggest cutting something you love so dearly. And of course, there's the dreaded rejection letter. So, then? What is a writer to do? Here are a few options... 📖 Take a step back. A lot of times, we can't see the forest through the trees. When you've been staring at the screen for too long, it can be hard to figure out the next steps. Stepping back for a little while and shifting your attention to something else can help clear your mind and refocus. 📖 Work on something else. It sounds counterintuitive to be working on two projects at once, but it helps to have that change of pace. Whether it's going from drafting one WIP to editing another, working on a blog post, or working on my soon-to-be-live AuthorTube channel, having a variety of writing projects to work on helps when you've fallen into rut. It's a much-needed refresh. 📖 Switch it up. If I've been staring at the screen for too long, I like to shift to a handwritten draft, and vice versa. Changing how you're writing puts it into a new perspective. 📖 Send it to a friend. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is pass your work on to a trusted friend or beta reader for their feedback. Getting input from someone outside of your story can highlight what's working and where to take things next. #writing #amwriting #writingcommunity ##writerfriendschallenge

Remember not all advice works for everyone! What have you found works for you? Or more importantly - have you found things that really popularly recommended but really don’t? Here’s what I did - 🪑 Sitting at my desk even if I didn’t write that day. Being in the same place consistently made it easier to at least set the time aside. Sometimes I stared at the screen. Sometimes I just played videogames. Sometimes I adjusted one paragraph. It still counted and is better than nothing at all. 🌿 Letting myself take breaks. I wasn’t in a race. If I hit writer’s block, I didn’t force it. I walked away and trusted I’d come back sharper. 🏙️ Going to different places and letting my brain wander. I live in a city, so I’ll people-watch, sit in cafés, listen to conversations, notice random art, overhear nonsense. My brain steals constantly. Respectfully. ✍🏻 (Controversially) I didn’t track word count. I wrote the scene until it felt done and moved on. Could be 300 words - could be 3,000. The draft grew either way and the scenes can always be adjusted or condensed. 📖 I wrote in chronological order. It helped me discover plot twists, motives, and emotional shifts because I was experiencing events alongside my characters. Continuity truly thanked me for that. 🎬 I hyped myself up majorly for the big event scenes I’d been waiting to write. I treated them like rewards. If I was excited, the energy showed up on the page. 🤫 Not talking about the book too much while drafting. I kept the energy private and for me. I don’t talk about my writing a lot in general, and trying to explain it when I wasn’t fully confident in it yet would’ve made me spiral. It needed to feel safe before it felt shareable. 🧩 Going back to fix plot holes later. Not the second I noticed them. #writersofinstagram #bookstagram #debutnovel #indieauthor #amwriting

I spend 40 hours a week helping other people solve their problems, and by the end of the day I’m often emotionally drained. That makes it hard to turn around and tackle my own challenge: finishing a book that’s been in the works for 6+ years. I hear a lot of writers say they take advantage of small pockets of time — writing in random moments throughout the day. But as someone still getting used to that kind of sporadic writing, I have a question: How do you keep track of where you left off and what you planned to write next? Because jumping back into a story mid-scene can be tricky when life keeps interrupting the flow. So I’m curious — what’s your biggest struggle with writing or other creative projects? #WritersLife #WritingCommunity #AmWriting

Meanwhile, the Finish Your Draft Framework has been changing the game for writers who want to get the damn thing done already, and maybe even enjoy the writing part while they’re at it. ✨ • Imagine feeling capable and competent every time you sit down to write, where getting stuck doesn’t mean stalling out because you have the tools you need to get moving again • What if every writing session moved your story forward instead of circling the same issue that you can’t quite name but KNOW is there • Those folks that always seem to know what the heck they’re doing?
