One of the early aliases of 4hero — primarily Marc Mac and Dego — operating in the early–mid 1990s. They helped introduce musical sophistication into Jungle and raised production standards. 🏆
It's hard to overstate the deep and profound impact they had on the scene, putting out classic after classic! Massive big up and thank you for the immense music! 🎖️
Marc and Dego used different names for different sounds:
Tom & Jerry → raw jungle / hardcore
4hero → futuristic, experimental, later broken beat / nu-jazz
Manix (Marc) → rave / hardcore
Tek9 (Dennis) → breakbeat / jungle / downtempo hip hop
The alias system was common at the time because scenes moved fast and producers wanted freedom to experiment without confusing audiences.

In 1998 electronic music group 4hero (Marc Mac and Diego McFarlane) turned in their third studio album; a masterpiece titled 'Two Pages' which was shortlisted for the coveted Mercury Music Prize and was awarded a MOBO in the same year. Widely known as pioneers of breakbeat, jungle and DnB, 4hero represented the very best in the London scene and 'Two Pages' expertly traversed genres, purveying tales of spirituality and astrology with the assistance of artists such as drummer Luke Parkhouse and vocalists Ursula Rucker, Carol Crosby, Face V Walsh and Ishmael Butler. Standout tracks 'Star Chasers' and 'We Who Are Not As The Others' evoke the energy of the album simply with their titles alone. Well worth an aural revisit. 👌💫
