"You can't control nature" Russell Draper, a resident of Daly River, was in a good spirits as he talked to ABC Darwin's Liz Trevaskis about the natural disaster he and his community are currently facing. This is not the first time Russell and his family have been confronted with a flood. Russell was 10 year's old when he was evacuated from Daly River during the 1998 floods. As of this morning, a flood level of 16.23 metres had been recorded at the Daly River Police Station Gauge. It is the second time this year the community has been hit by major flooding and residents have been displaced, although water levels last time peaked at 14.2m. Russell Draper's property is on higher ground, and even at 16.23 metres, the flood water has not yet entered his home. He intends to stay at his residence until it does. "Once it's in the house, there's not much point in sort of hanging here, and we can check on it each day and wait for the water to disappear, which will hopefully be soon!" 🎤Liz Trevaskis 🎬Mahi Garbas #ABCRadioDarwin
