ABAdvancing the progress of women in financial services is at the heart of what we do as ABSIP Women in Focus (AWIF) sub-committee. The sub-committee was created in 2006 for the sole purpose of supporting and developing emerging female professionals in the financial services sector through partnering with various sponsors within our industry. Since then, we have assisted and supported several women within financial services who have become champions of what we do.
This is why, Accelerating Action, the theme for the 2025 International Women’s Day takinf place today, 8 March, resonates so deeply with us. This year’s theme is aimed at reducing the forecasts that we will only reach gender parity in 2158 – that’s five generations from now!
We spoke to former AWIF subcommittee member, Maseabi Marageni, who is the deputy secretary general for ABSIP National to reflect on the impact and work AWIF has done over the years.
“ABSIP’s single biggest point of impact has been in its commitment to building a transformed, fully inclusive and ethically run through its intentional development of women, and making sure that they really advance as professionals within the financial services sector. This is really driven by the ABSIP Women in Focus (AWIF) subcommittee which really ensures that there is sustainable transformation and a strong female pipeline. And, from a learning perspective, ensuring that there is continuously learning happening and that we’re developing ethical leaders who can take this forward.”
