She could’ve cowered in embarrassment. This age is tender. These girls are becoming so conscious of their bodies, so desperate to belong. But Campbell chose honesty instead. She told her new friends why her eyes cross and how her brain works. And instead of marking her as different—it became the very thing that connected them. The truth has a way of doing that. You cant be embarrassed by something you don’t call bad. Campbell navigated this moment with ease because she’s been taught that the ways she differs are worthy—not wrong. Now a lunch table of girls knows that too. The language we give our children becomes the voice they most listen to. Let your words be kind. Let your acceptance be loud. #neurodiverse #actuallyautistic #disabilitysupport #autismcommunity

This might surprise you 👇 A lot of girls I see for anxiety aren’t “just anxious.” As we talk more, it becomes clear that some of them are actually autistic. And most people miss it. Autism in girls often doesn’t look like the stereotype people expect. That’s why so many girls go undiagnosed for years and are instead labeled as anxious, shy, or sensitive. Here are some signs of autism in girls that are often overlooked: 1️⃣ One close friend at a time Many autistic girls form deep, intense friendships instead of large social circles. Their strong interests can extend into relationships too. 2️⃣ Social discomfort, even with familiar people Even around family or close friends, social interaction can feel draining or awkward because social “rules” don’t come naturally. 3️⃣ Friendships that suddenly fall apart Missing subtle cues, sarcasm, or unspoken expectations can lead to friendships ending without warning. 4️⃣ Prefers younger or older peers Social dynamics often feel more predictable with younger kids or adults, making those relationships feel safer. 5️⃣ Social exhaustion Your child may look “fine” socially, but completely crash afterward. Masking takes a huge amount of mental and emotional energy. ‼️⚠️ Important reminder: Autism is a spectrum. Not every girl with these traits is autistic, and not every autistic girl will show all of them. But patterns matter. When autism is missed in girls, it can show up later as anxiety, burnout, low self-esteem, or chronic social stress. Early understanding changes everything. Confidence. Friendships. Mental health. 💭 Comment or DM the word “BRAIN” if you are ready to start tailoring strategies specific to your child’s needs. 💙 Follow @ctcparenting for more autism parenting support that is practical, respectful, and compassionate. 8 things people think are “normal”
but are actually autistic vestibular sensory signals Most people call these quirks.
But for Autistic nervous system it’s information. 1️⃣ Feeling calmer when you’re moving
Walking, rocking, pacing, swaying, driving—your body regulates through motion. 2️⃣ Getting instantly dysregulated by elevators, escalators, or spinning
It’s not fear. It’s vestibular overload. 3️⃣ Needing to lie down on the floor to feel okay
Flat, grounded, still = vestibular reset. 4️⃣ Feeling exhausted after visually busy or fast-moving environments
Your balance system is working overtime to keep you oriented. 5️⃣ Loving swings, hammocks, rolling chairs… or avoiding them completely
Vestibular seeking or vestibular avoidance—both are signals. 6️⃣ Getting overwhelmed in crowds even when the noise is manageable
Your vestibular system is tracking too many moving bodies at once. 7️⃣ Needing a wall, railing, or furniture to feel steady when standing
That’s your body quietly seeking vestibular + proprioceptive anchoring. 8️⃣ Feeling nauseous, headachy, or foggy when you’re stressed Stress tightens postural muscles → vestibular processing gets distorted. If you feel like this, your nervous system needs motion the way others need caffeine. None of this means something is wrong with you.
It means your vestibular system is loud and worth listening to. If you’re autistic and this list felt uncomfortably accurate, your body has been communicating this whole time. Comment “Stack” if you want a break down of how to work with this system instead of fighting it, as well as 3 other less talked about sensory systems that may be wrecking your nervous system! #autisticadults #autism #autistic #autisticwomen #sensoryprocessing
