The Orion spacecraft successfully completed its initial orbit and performed the translunar injection burn, setting the crew on course for the Moon. Early in the mission, minor technical issues such as brief communication dropouts and a small onboard system malfunction occurred, but none posed a serious risk and were quickly resolved. The mission is expected to last around 10 days in total. Next, the crew will conduct a lunar flyby, traveling around the far side of the Moon before heading back toward Earth. The structure is 90% open space but distributes load so efficiently it ends up 40 times stronger than a solid sheet of the same weight. It weighs just 11% of steel at the same volume. That’s why it’s inside aircraft floors, helicopter rotor blades, Formula 1 chassis, satellites and stadium walls. Nobody invented the hexagon. Bees did. It’s the most efficient shape in nature. Uses the least material to hold the most load. Engineers spent decades studying why it worked before deciding to just copy it directly. Honeycomb panels have been used in aircraft and rockets since the 1950s and the design hasn’t changed since because it doesn’t need to. Nature figured it out first. Team SpaceX 🫡. SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, is transforming space travel with its fully reusable rocket system, Starship. The Starship system consists of the Starship upper stage and the massive Super Heavy booster. In its fifth test flight configuration (often referred to as Starship Flight 5), the fully stacked rocket stands about 120 meters tall and weighs nearly 5,000 metric tons (around 5 million kilograms) when fully fueled, making it the most powerful and heaviest rocket ever built. The Super Heavy booster alone is an engineering giant. It is powered by 33 Raptor engines and produces roughly 74 meganewtons of thrust at liftoff — more than any rocket in history. The booster itself weighs over 3,500 metric tons when fueled. Managing this level of thrust, fuel flow, pressure, and structural stress requires extremely advanced materials, precision manufacturing, and real-time flight control systems. What makes it a true engineering masterpiece is the landing. After separation, the heavy booster flips mid-air, performs a controlled descent, relights selected engines, and slows down from supersonic speeds to land vertically back near the launch site. Controlling thousands of tons of falling rocket with pinpoint accuracy is incredibly complex.
