After a terrifying fall into an ice abyss in April 2023, hope was nearly lost. Witness the moment Polish climber Adam Bielecki and a heroic team of international climbers and Nepali Sherpas pull Anurag from the depths. This real footage captures one of mountaineering's most daring rescues. Against all odds, Anurag survived severe hypothermia and fought through a grueling recovery, losing his fingertips but never his spirit. Alpine coils? 🤨 What’s the point of wearing the rope? 🧗 Mainly used to help manage excess rope while staying ready to use it/ adjust length at moments notice, It’s VERY easy to lose control of rope it can be come messy and dangerous quickly, coils help keep it out the way especially away from crampons, it’s also the most efficient way to change the rope length between you and your partner (if in a 2) say 10/15m gap for crossing a glaicer’ and 4/6m gap for exposed rock, Mountaineering can be extremely dangerous and incorrect techniques can make it more dangerous, always take the appropriate precautions ⚠️ (You can tie in directly to the harness or a figure of eight onto a carabiner, depending on the situation) Roughly how I’d ‘take coils’ Step 1️⃣ , tie in to the harness, figure of 8 + stopper knot onto the upper and lower tie-in points not the belay loop (If your in the middle of the rope you can just do this on a figure knot straight onto a screw gate carabiner on your belay loop) Step 2️⃣ , having ur hood up and backpack on coil the rope around ur body using ur hand to space it and keep it tight, Step 3️⃣ , pull the ‘live rope’ through the coil and tie off the coil with a over hand knott, (this is just to keep the coils tidy not load bearing) Step 4️⃣ , using a screw gate carabiner clip in the bite loop from the tie off coil Step 5️⃣ , tie another figure of eight or a clove hitch on the live rope and clip it through ur Carabiner belay loop, so you aren’t strangled by your coils and the load is directly on your harness Climb safely! This is what we used for our 8x 4000m mountains in the alps summer 2025, However any advice is always appreciated lmk how you do your coils 👍 #hiking #mountaineering #mountain #climbing #montblanc

@lasportivagram has started making packs! And they’ve gone straight in at the top end with this amazing Challenger 28 Backpack. Versatility and durability is the name of the game, whether it’s rock climbing, mountaineering, alpine climbing and ski mountaineering. Most alpine accidents aren’t bad luck, they’re bad timing. Seeing bolts melted like wax is a reality check. Storms don’t care about your fitness, your stoke, or how close you are to the summit. Up high, timing rules everything. Here’s the system I use: • Forecast Stack: Compare multiple sources. MeteoBlue & Wind plus the local mountain weather report. One forecast is never enough. • Timing Window: Plan to be descending before convection builds. Blue skies in the morning don’t mean anything by noon. • Efficiency: Move steady, keep transitions tight, don’t waste time on the ridge. • Bail Logic: Know your escape points and where the route commits. Once you cross that line, your only direction is up and over. • Go/No-Go: If the wind shifts, clouds thicken, or your pace drops, that’s your sign. Turn around. No ego. And if you’re already in terrain where retreat isn’t possible? You switch gears. Smooth movement, deliberate decisions, and zero hesitation until you’re off exposed ground. Lightning doesn’t negotiate. Your only edge is preparation, timing, and discipline. #alpinism #mountaineer #alpineclimbing

Should you practice clipping into ice tools for unexpected events? 100% yes. This is one of those “if this, then yes… but” things. Having systems dialed so you can use the technique if you need it = smart. Relying on it as a normal attachment = not. Ice tools aren’t built like anchors. The spike and lower attachment points are usually small bolts, modular parts, or loss-prevention features — not primary load paths. Example: a Petzl Nomic spike is held on by a small bolt. Under the right conditions? It’ll hold body weight. But add unknown ice quality + sudden weighting + tool shift… and you’re stacking variables fast. So yes — know how. Yes — practice. But treat clipping the tool as a last-resort option, not a standard system. #iceclimbing #drytooling #climbingtechnique #alpineclimbing

HOW TO COIL YOUR ROPE FOR ALPINE CLIMBING 3 Reasons why Rock Climbing Rope systems don't work in Alpine Climbing: 1️⃣ In rock climbing the friction comes from your belay device, in alpine climbing it comes from the whole system, including the rope running over the terrain. In alpine climbing you need to use friction, in rock climbing you need to avoid it. 2️⃣ In rock climbing, you can run the rope straight, in the mountains the rope is dragging over loose rocks, and constrictions. Using a rock climbing approach will knock off rocks, and likely get your rope stuck frequently. 3️⃣ 1 length fits all in vertical rock climbing, but in the mountains your rope length needs to match the shape of the terrain. Short blocky sections require a short rope. I want to help you develop the technical rope skills specific to alpine climbing in our LIVE Rope Systems for Alpine Climbing Workshop TOMORROW. Double your speed and increase your security in the mountains this summer. Space is limited, and going fast. Register at the link in bio!
