This might sound controversial but if you listen to audiobooks over reading the physical thing… I think you’ll LOVE audio drama. Okay, yes, first of all, listening to an audiobook counts as reading, don’t let other people police you, but also there is a GOLDMINE of audio stories out there - full cast, full sound design, full score, multiple seasons - that you can get FOR FREE on your phone. For a long time fiction podcasts have sat under the umbrella of podcasts, courting that audience, and I think it’s time we start talking more directly to book people. If you’re an audiobook lover, drop your favorite audiobook in the comments and I’ll do my best to recommend an audio drama I think you’ll love!

Audio stories and podcasts are SUCH a great screen time alternative for toddlers and preschoolers 👀 We started listening to Super Simple Songs when my daughter was just 12 months old — it’s perfect for listening to and learning nursery rhymes! These songs are also great in the car, or at home for a little dance break or sing-along to reset without screens. When she turned 2, we introduced short audio stories and podcast episodes during her afternoon “rest time.” She’d get all cozy with a blanket on the couch and I’d play the audio story over on our smart home device. At first, she’d only listen for a few minutes, but soon, she was enjoying 1–2 episodes at a time. The first podcast we started with was Gardenkeeper Gus because it’s so calming (plus the episodes are short and sweet). By 2.5, we started 1-2 audio stories at bedtime (calming stories were so great for winding down), and now at 3.5, it’s one of her favorite screen-free activities that she loves to do during quiet time every day too! Here are some toddler-friendly podcasts and audio stories to get started: 🎵 Super Simple Songs – nursery rhymes, ages 1+ 🎨 Super Simple Imagination Time With Caitie – imaginative stories, ages 2+ 📚 Disney Story Time – classic Disney tales, ages 2+ 🧸 Sesame Street Story Time – stories with familiar characters, ages 2+ 🚂 Thomas and Friends Story Time – train adventures, ages 2+ 🦄 Little Stories for Tiny People – short, engaging stories, ages 3+ 🐻 Circle Round – folktales from around the world, ages 3+ 🦖 Storynory Stories – classic stories and original tales, ages 3+ 🌱 Gardenkeeper Gus – gentle garden adventures, ages 3+ If you’d like my full list of toddler and preschooler podcasts by age, comment LIST and I’ll send it to you! *Age ranges are approximate — every child is different, so use your own judgment and adjust as needed 🫶🏼 #toddlerscreentime #screentime #lowstimulatingshows #toddlerparents
