🎙️ EPISODE 29 - LINK IN BIO 🎙️ Just because one child’s struggles are more visible than another’s it doesn’t always mean they are worse off or struggling more. Their needs are simply very different. I believe this consistent comparison isn’t fault of the parents themselves as it’s a very difficult world to try and navigate as parents not only in emotional terms but also in terms of our general understanding of autism itself. I believe this is mainly a Result of the lack of specificity in diagnosis partly to do with the wider world, professional and otherwise, still having a large amount to learn about what autism actually is and how best to help every individual and every parent meet their respective needs effectively. Less comparison, more understanding, more support. It’s a common goal. ✌️❤️ #AutismAwareness #AutismAcceptance #AutismCommunity #DifferentNotLess #ActuallyAutistic #Neurodiversity #Neurodivergent #AutismJourney #AutismSupport #RedInstead #ParentingAutism #AutismParent #AutismDad #AutismMom #SpecialNeedsParent #ParentingJourney #GentleParenting #ParentingRealities #ParentingUnfiltered #RealParentingMoments #AutismAdvocate #AutismAwarenessMonth #InclusionMatters #SupportAutisticVoices #UnderstandingAutism #EndTheStigma #CelebrateNeurodiversity #AutismAcceptanceEveryday #AutismEducation #SeeTheAbleNotTheLabel

Here’s why. 1. Our kiddos are autistic and struggle with lots of things typical kids may not. One being fine motor skills. They aren’t quite able to hold a cupcake, AND take the paper off, AND take bites, AND not drop it. It takes a lot for our brains to do those things. Especially in the car. 2. They have to be reminded to take bites, not to just eat the entirety in one bite. Choking hazard absolutely. We’ve seen our kids faces go blue. We’ve had to step in, multiple times. We don’t chance that, especially in the car. 3. They don’t know how not to make a mess. I know, our kids need a chance to be messy. Sure. But this is different. If we hand them a cupcake, there’s a giant chance they take one but and the entirety of the rest falls on the floor. Or they’ll be decorated like a Michelangelo painting. Tantrums. Meltdowns. Etc. surely you can imagine. And if we’re going somewhere, etc, having to change them again, etc it’s just not worth it. 4. We can’t just hand our kiddos food in the car. Yet. One day hopefully we can, but for now, it’s totally normal to get a treat, park and feed the kids. #autism #autismmom #autismdad #autismacceptance #autismawareness

💙💙 Via @markmadeit_ Absolutely feeling grateful and wanted to share a thought that's been on my mind. 🌟 A child who is autistic spends hours being taught how to interact with others. But why don't we spend time teaching others how to interact with them? It's a two-way street, and understanding should come from both directions. I'm beyond happy and so appreciative to have found a barber for my son who has taken the time to truly learn about him and understand his needs. It's not just about cutting hair; it's about creating a comfortable environment for my son, showing patience, and making the effort to connect with him on his level. This kind of understanding and accommodation makes all the difference and it reminds me of the beautiful things that happen when we take the time to understand and adapt to each other's worlds. This experience has been a heartwarming reminder that there are wonderful people out there who are open to learning and adapting to the needs of autistic individuals. Let's all strive to be more like that - more open, more understanding, and more inclusive. Because at the end of the day, it's abou making our world a kinder, more accepting place everyone. #AutismAwareness #Inclusion #Understanding #autism #autismacceptance #autismo 💙 #autismdad #autismmom #autismsupportandawareness #barber

I mostly used autistic or neurodivergent, but it depends. What language do you tend to use? I have used just about all these at some point, well all except “suffers from.” I don’t judge how people describe themselves or their loved ones. When Jackson is older and tells me what he prefers, I will honor that. Whether he chooses to use person-first language or identity-first language. #autismmom #autismmoms #autismdad #autismdads #actuallyautistic #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #asd #autism #autismawareness
