How to build links for SEO Most backlinks get flat-out ignored by Google. And if you're paying an agency to just pump out links without understanding why they work, you're probably burning money. Here's the thing — Google expects your link growth to match everything else. More content, more brand searches, more people talking about you. If links spike but nothing else does, that looks fake. So instead of chasing volume, we focus on three things: → Foundational links (directories, social profiles) → Relationship-based links (testimonials, guest posts, partner pages) → Outreach to sites Google already trusts (found through AI mode search results) 95% of cold outreach gets ignored. But that 5% is worth it — these are sites Google is already citing. Out of 40 SEO clients, I only recommend a link building agency for 2 of them.
