🐝Bee yard update! We are continually learning and humbled by our journey as beekeepers. We got our first hive in 2018 and have ebb and flowed throughout the years between one to four hives at a time. 🪷I am still relying on help and knowledge from my bee mentors, particularly Kristie and Scotty of Lilybee Farms and the Four Corners Beekeepers Association to grow our confidence in managing our hives. 🐝🦋🪰🐦‍⬛ You don’t have to become a beekeeper to appreciate all they do for our food system, we are all reliant on the work of many insects including wasps, flies, native bees, and even birds to help pollinate our food crops. Creating a beneficial habitat for pollinators is a great first step… 🌸 plant some flowers! 🌳 choose blooming ornamental and native plants when landscaping 🌼 Let those dandelions grow and bloom! 👎 Stop using herbicides and pesticides in your yard that can be detrimental to your own health, your pets, birds, and insects. 👍 Advocate in your community for more chemical free parks and open spaces! 🐝 Join your local bee club and buy local honey! 👩🏻‍🌾 #empressthyme #savethebees #supportyourlocalfarmer

Today at nursery, the children made a very special discovery — a little bee who seemed tired and lethargic 🐝💛 We took this as a lovely learning opportunity to talk about how important bees are to our world and what we can do to help them. The children learned that sometimes bees just need a little energy boost, so we showed them how a small drop of sugar water can help revive them. It was wonderful to see such care and curiosity from the children as they learned how even the smallest act of kindness can make a big difference 🌼 We’re so proud of our little eco-helpers today!

Using our “shaker box” we are able to collect bees without taking the queen. This is a great mite management strategy and prevents swarming
