Authors contact me many times asking me to edit their “finished” manuscript. But when I start reading, I realize their story has bigger issues that need addressing first. Remember, your story has to land well on readers, triggering their WOW emotions before we worry about Oxford commas. Here’s what usually happens: → Authors think their story is done → They want a quick edit → I read it and find plot holes, pacing issues, or flat characters. → Lack of emotions and telling are most frequent → I gently approach them → They realize beta reading should have come first That one realization changes everything. Don’t waste your money on editing until you do this. Test your story with a beta reader (who reads books) first. Get the big picture feedback. THEN move on to editing. Because perfect grammar can’t fix a story that doesn’t connect with readers. ✨Ready to test your story with a beta reader first? 👉🏻 Services form in bio or send me a DM. Repost this to help other authors Hi, I am Nila, a beta reader and book editor. I help make your books stronger. When I leave comments as a beta reader: "maybe think about how this might need a little more emotion, but I could totally be wrong!!!" When I leave comments for myself: "you're a horrible writer, what were you even thinking, you idiot" So editing my series finale is going great! #writerlife #writingcommunity #writethebook #keepwriting #writersofinstagram

Your beta readers aren’t salespeople. They’re not comparing your book to others or deciding who “wins.” Their job is simple: read what’s on the page and give feedback on the story you wrote. It’s not a competition. It’s a craft conversation. We unpack how to use beta reader feedback without losing your voice in the latest podcast episode. 🎧 #WritingCommunity #AmWriting #WritingTips #AuthorLife #WritersOfInstagram

Most beta feedback is not feedback. It’s vibes. It’s random opinions from people who were never given a job description. It’s “I didn’t connect” (with who and why??) and “I wanted more backstory” (about what??) and “I loved it!!” (cool, what do I do with that). And then you do the worst thing: you start revising based on whoever spoke last. I’m teaching Beta Reader Ready because you deserve beta feedback that actually moves the book forward instead of sending you into a week-long existential spiral where you rewrite chapter one twelve times and call it “progress.” Comment READER and I’ll send the link + dates.
