Why we can’t stop talking about biochar kilns ⬇️ 🌱 Biochar is a soil conditioner that benefits all soil types. It’s very slow to break down, so it helps mitigate climate change by locking carbon in the soil and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Is it any wonder biochar is an important tool in regenerative agriculture? 🔥 Our Stainless Steel Biochar Kilns are portable, compact, and they make producing biochar in your yard faster and easier than ever! (They can produce biochar in as little as 20 minutes, compared to several hours or up to a day with other methods.) 🍅 Once you have biochar, you can “charge” it with compost or compost tea. Then you have a powerful soil amendment that improves the health of your soil and helps to increase garden yields. Shop new Stainless Steel Portable Biochar Kilns at the link in bio, or visit eartheasy.com Questions about biochar? 👇 We’d love to answer them!  #biochar #gardeninghack #soilhealth #composting #organicgardening #permaculture #regenerativeag

Most people try to directly feed the plants. But plants grow due to the wonderful living system in our soils Bacteria, fungi and other soil life break down organic matter and transform nutrients into forms plant roots can readily absorb. This powerhouse combo of compost tea & biochar loaded with forest soil and manure helps rebuild that vital living system. Feed the soil first. Everything else follows 🤎 #Livingsoil #composttea #biochar #regenerativegardening #growyourfood

😥🌾🚜 You’ve got the biochar, but how much should you actually add to soil? Too much or too little biochar can actually slow down your yield goals! We always guide our clients to success by prioritizing preparation over volume. Biochar must be charged with compost or chemical fertilizer before application to prevent that initial nutrient lockup. By adhering to tested rates, growers ensure they achieve maximum impact and return on investment for years to come. #biochar #soil #soilhealth #soilamendment #farming #farmingtips #sustainability #agriculture

Have you heard of biochar? Biochar is a super charcoal made by heating biomass and contain only pure carbon. Biochar has a lot of benefits, especially in the garden such as better water retention, richer soil life, and in turns, create a healthier soil. Watch our highlight to see how did we make our biochar during workshop with Fennix @phoenix_risenow at Jiwa Garden. #biochar #permaculture #jiwagarden #gardening #bali #berkebun #weekendactivity #organicfarming #workshop #freeworkshop

Meet Mike 🙌🏼 Mike from @mikereedhedgelaying delivered us a fresh batch of his LOVELY biochar the other day which we use to boost our living compost 😎 This all comes from his hazel coppice on the edge of Bristol which supplies lovely hazel logs and canes 🪵 The waste ‘brash’ is the twiggy bits that aren’t big enough for selling as canes, so instead it is turned into biochar 🤘🏼 What is biochar I hear you ask? It’s an incredibly carbon rich material that makes a great soil amendment 🪱 Instead of requiring oxygen and burning at upward of 600 degrees Celsius like a normal flame, biochar is created via a process called pyrolysis 🔥 This occurs at 200 to 600 degrees Celsius which locks in all of the carbon. When added into the soil, it locks up the carbon making it a carbon-negative process 🌳 We’ve been getting some incredible feedback from our Bristol Living Compost Project members who have been trialling beds with and without our compost and the difference is night and day 🤠 If you’d like to sign up to our food waste collection and compost delivery scheme please check it out using the link in bio ☝🏼 If you’d like to get your hands on our compost, we are offering it as a reward for donating to our crowdfunder so please do check that out also using the link in bio 🫶🏼 #biochar #soilhealthmatters #pyrolysis #generationsoil

#biochar #condicionadordesolo

We didn’t plant right away. We built the beds. Let them cure. Buffered the edges. Built the soil. This is the final step before planting. Activated biochar and a natural liquid fertilizer… applied, covered, and left to continue working. The beds are ready now. But what we plant first matters just as much as everything we’ve done so far. #soilhealth #biochar #organicgardening #permaculture #gardenprep

Biochar lasts 500–2,000 years in the soil. It is one of the most stable forms of carbon that exists. BUT… 👉 Its fertility boost happens in phases. Reposted from @wildmagicfarms 📈 Biochar Fertility Timeline 0–3 months: Almost no fertility by itself If not inoculated, it can steal nitrogen If inoculated (like with forest EM), it starts feeding microbes fast. 3–12 months: Microbial colonization explodes Soil structure improves You notice better water retention Nutrients stay in the root zone longer 1–3 years: Maximum fertility gains Root systems expand deeper Plants get more resilient Crop yields improve noticeably 3+ years to centuries: Biochar remains as a permanent biological sponge Continues housing microbes and storing nutrients Does not degrade or disappear It’s basically permanent infrastructure for your soil, like adding rebar to concrete Reposted from @wildmagicfarms

Are you making biochar yet? It’s one of the best soil amendments you can make for free in a pit! I have a lot of videos about biochar if you’re curious! What is biochar? Biochar is literally just charcoal that has been ‘inoculated’ with beneficial bacteria and nutrients. Charcoal has a porous structure and it acts like a sponge so it soaks up nutrients, water and gives a safe space for microbes to live. Why biochar? 1. 💧 Increases water holding capacity: adding a bunch of little sponges to your soil means it can hold more water and withstand drought far better. 2. 🦠 Gives microbes a safe spot to live: it protects them from leaching out of the soil which is a common reason people’s soil fertility drops over time. 3. ⏳ Lasts for 100 to 1000 years in your soil: terra preta is thousands of years old and biochar is still benefitting those soils. 4. 🔥 It’s made from a waste product that you would burn anyways: why not get some $$ instead of burning your brush to ash. 5. 🌍 It sequesters carbon: on a large scale biochar could have serious implications for pulling carbon out of the air and helping with climate change. You convinced yet? #honestead #permaculture #biochar #regenerativeagriculture

Comment BURN for more information about why biochar is an amazing soil amendment and how to make it. Sorry for my raspy voice! I’m getting over a sickness but I wanted to follow through on my promise to post about biochar this weekend. Biochar is super expensive if you buy it from a store. Especially if you have plenty of wood on hand you could easily make it on your own and save a lot of money 🙌
